João Gomes ranked first among the artists most listened to on Kwai from January through June 2022, according to a Kwai survey described in contemporary reports. The finding is historical: the reports give no stream total or measurement method, and do not establish who leads the platform today.
What the Kwai ranking says
Reports published on August 17 and 19, 2022 said Kwai’s survey placed João Gomes at number one for the first half of that year. Both reports listed the same ten artists. Leoa Ruiva’s August 19 report and POPline’s August 17 coverage provide contemporaneous accounts of the result.

Does “most-streamed” mean a measured stream count?
Not on the evidence available in these accounts. They describe João Gomes as the most listened to, but publish no number of plays and no explanation of what Kwai counted. The ranking therefore should not be recast as a specific stream total, or as a ranking of video uses or views.
#1 Best Overall
It is best understood as Kwai’s reported survey ranking for January–June 2022, rather than an independently audited dataset. The reports do not explain whether the measure involved audio plays, music used in short videos, or another kind of listening activity. They also provide no basis for a numerical comparison with Spotify, YouTube, or another Kwai period.

Kwai’s newsroom announced on May 25, 2026 that its #VivaOSãoJoãoRaiz project would offer more than 100 hours of live São João content, including shows featuring João Gomes. That figure describes event programming, not listening activity or a new artist ranking. Kwai’s newsroom announcement offers current platform context but does not update the 2022 result.
Accordingly, the available reporting supports saying João Gomes led Kwai’s reported first-half 2022 list. It does not support saying he is Kwai’s most-listened-to artist in 2026 or its all-time leader.
