Jitendra Kumar’s route into acting ran through theatre at IIT Kharagpur, early work with The Viral Fever (TVF), and the online success of “Munna Jazbaati.” In a 2019 interview with Scroll, he described that path and his response to his first Bollywood film, Gone Kesh. At the time, he was also playing Jeetu Bhaiya in Kota Factory.
How Jitendra Kumar moved from IIT to acting
Kumar told Scroll that he graduated from IIT Kharagpur in 2012 and joined TVF after college with senior Biswapati Sarkar. He initially worked in Bangalore. The response to the TVF video “Munna Jazbaati” encouraged him to take acting more seriously; the 2019 article reports that he moved to Mumbai in 2013 and joined TVF full-time.
That account links his engineering education to a gradual shift in focus, rather than a direct move from campus to film. The chronology and recollections here are Kumar’s as reported in the 2019 interview.
How theatre shaped his confidence
Kumar said he became interested in theatre while at IIT. He performed plays by Rabindranath Tagore, Vijay Tendulkar and Mahesh Dattani, and singled out playing Sakharam Binder as a role that helped him build confidence.

His account presents theatre as an important early experience, even though his professional path developed through TVF rather than drama school.
From TVF videos to films
“Munna Jazbaati” was an early TVF appearance that became a turning point in Kumar’s account of pursuing acting. He later moved into film work. In the 2019 interview, he described Gone Kesh as his Bollywood debut and said Chaman Bahaar was his next film at the time. Those references reflect the projects discussed in that interview, not a current project list.

Speaking about his reaction to Gone Kesh, Kumar said: “I loved watching myself on the big screen.” The remark was specifically about seeing his work in that film.
What Kumar said about Jeetu Bhaiya in Kota Factory
Kumar described Jeetu Bhaiya as a teacher who helps students adjust after leaving home for Kota. In his view, friends and teachers can become a support system during that transition. The character’s role as a reassuring adult is thus tied to the upheaval students face when they move away from home.
