Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the collection drew attention
The objects joined personal stories to public history: a working manuscript associated with the creation of Alcoholics Anonymous, a scroll on which Kerouac composed a landmark novel, instruments linked to major musicians, and documents connected to the founding and political history of the United States. That breadth helps explain why Christie’s organized the collection across separate sales rather than presenting it as a single category of collectibles.
