Jessie Buckley won Best Female Actor – Motion Picture – Drama at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards on January 11, 2026, for Hamnet. Her acceptance speech is moving because its gratitude reaches beyond the spotlight: she thanks the people who made the film, then turns warmly to the fellow nominees she has just competed against.

What Buckley says in the speech
Buckley uses her time at the microphone to recognize the people behind Hamnet, including its director, co-star, author, cast and crew. She also acknowledges the film’s international collaboration: a Chinese director, Irish contributors, a mostly Polish crew and a British family at its center.
Her address to the other nominees gives the speech its especially generous turn. RTÉ quotes Buckley saying, “God, I’d watch you anytime, anywhere. You blow my mind.” Rather than treating the award as a moment of personal triumph alone, she uses it to express admiration for the artists sharing the category.

Why Hamnet matters to the moment
Buckley received the award for her performance in Hamnet, a film about Agnes and William Shakespeare and the loss of their son. The story comes from Maggie O’Farrell’s work, and Buckley’s thanks to the author and the people who brought the story to the screen connect her individual performance to a much larger creative effort.
That context makes the speech feel rooted in the film itself. Buckley’s gratitude is specific—to collaborators and fellow actors—rather than a generic list of acknowledgments.

A later conversation about the speech
In a later Jimmy Kimmel Live! interview, Buckley discussed Hamnet, the Golden Globe win and thanking a crew member for making soup. The interview revisits a detail from the acceptance speech; it is separate from the official ceremony clip and is not a substitute for watching the speech itself.
