According to The Daily Beast, Kimmel asked, “You’re single right now?” Lopez answered, “I am.” As he began another question, she interjected, “I should have done it sooner,” prompting an audience gasp and applause, the report said. She added, “I’ve been doing it all wrong!” and later described being single as “fantastic.”
Was she talking about Ben Affleck?
The reported exchange was about Lopez’s present experience of being single, not a detailed account of her marriage to Affleck or their split. The report does not describe her revealing a new specific fact about him. The headline connection is relationship context; the surprise was her upbeat comment about single life.

The Daily Beast also reported that Lopez joked, in response to Kimmel suggesting The Bachelorette, “I’m not doing anything to ruin how I feel right now.” The report placed the conversation during her promotion of the Netflix romantic comedy Office Romance.

Lopez also appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in May 2024. In that separate interview, Marie Claire reported that she recounted Barbra Streisand asking to see the engagement ring Affleck gave her in 2002. That engagement-ring anecdote is distinct from the 2026 conversation about being single; the two appearances should not be treated as one interview.
