Her initial response to the allegations
In a statement reported on October 10, 2017, Lawrence said she was “deeply disturbed” by reports of Weinstein’s behavior and supported the women who came forward. She also said she had not personally witnessed inappropriate behavior by him. ABC News reported her response.
Her later account of their interactions
In a November 2017 interview with Scott Feinberg, Lawrence said she had known Weinstein since she was 20 and described him as “almost paternal” to her, while adding, “He was never inappropriate with me.” She also said she had heard he was “a dog” and that the revelations shocked her. Why did Lawrence object to Weinstein’s lawyers citing her?
In February 2018, Weinstein’s attorneys cited Lawrence’s earlier remarks in a court filing. Lawrence responded that her comments about her own business relationship were being taken out of context to imply that Weinstein had not abused other women. She said she had not been personally victimized by him and stood behind survivors, including those pursuing criminal or civil action. Did Weinstein claim he had a sexual relationship with Lawrence?
A 2018 report about a lawsuit included an allegation that Weinstein had claimed to have had a sexual relationship with Lawrence. Lawrence denied anything beyond a professional relationship. The reporting establishes that the allegation and denial were made public; it does not establish that Weinstein made the alleged claim or that a sexual relationship occurred.
