It recalls Jennifer Aniston’s 1990s “Rachel” look, but the modern version can be softer and tailored to your length, texture and styling preferences. A 2025 report said Aniston wore the shape in an Instagram video; the report is secondary, so the appearance is best described as reported rather than independently confirmed.
What is a C-shape haircut?
The defining feature is not simply having layers: the framing pieces are graduated and concentrated around the face, creating an inward curve. Stylist Suzie McGill describes layers throughout the hair for body and movement, with more graduated shaping near the face. The result can be cut with varying lengths and intensity rather than one fixed template.
That emphasis distinguishes it from a general layered cut, which may distribute layers through the lengths without the same face-framing curve. C-shape is also used as a trend label, so the name alone does not guarantee a particular salon technique.
Why is it connected to Jennifer Aniston?
The comparison is to Aniston’s “Rachel” haircut from the 1990s. Stylist Jake Davis describes the C-shape as a looser take on that look, not necessarily a replica. The modern cut can be customized rather than copying the Rachel’s specific length or layering.

A WomenOnly/SKAI item updated August 19, 2025, reported that Aniston showed the style in an Instagram video posted August 3 while promoting LolaVie dry shampoo. That is secondary reporting; the original post was not independently verified. “Viral” is likewise an editorial description here, not a claim backed by a verified view count or adoption statistic.

Use a description as a starting point, then let your stylist adapt it to your hair and desired maintenance:

- Bring reference photos that show the length and finish you actually want; if your preferred look differs in curl pattern or length, bring more than one.
- Discuss how much layering suits your texture and how much styling you want to do. The chin is a suggested starting point, not a fixed placement for every face or cut.
- Ask how the shape will look when your hair is worn naturally as well as when it is blow-dried.
Can the C-shape work with your hair texture?
Stylists describe the cut as adaptable across hair types, but the outline will not look identical on every texture. On thick hair, layering can remove weight and encourage movement. Straight hair may show the curve more clearly when styled; curls will form a different outline, so the placement and amount of layering matter. How do you style the inward curve?
Styling is optional: the haircut does not require a particular product or a blowout. To emphasize a smooth, curved finish, blow-dry sections with a large round brush and direct them inward toward the face. A volumizing mousse or root booster may add lift, but neither is essential. A blow-dryer brush is another option if coordinating a separate brush and dryer is difficult.

One stylist recommends salon visits every six to eight weeks to maintain the layers. Treat that as guidance, not a universal schedule: timing depends on how quickly your hair grows, whether you want to preserve the length and how polished you want the outline to stay.
