Jennifer Aniston criticized JD Vance in July 2024 after a clip resurfaced from a 2021 interview in which he called Democrats “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives.” Aniston’s Instagram Story, as quoted by ABC News, challenged the remark and raised the possibility that Vance’s daughter might one day need IVF.
What did Jennifer Aniston say about JD Vance?
Aniston responded to Vance in an Instagram Story after his old comments returned to public attention. ABC News reported that she began: “I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States.” She then said she hoped Vance’s daughter would not need IVF as a second option, adding that he was trying to take that away from her. ABC News reported the wording; the original Story was not independently archived in the reporting reviewed.
What was the “childless cat ladies” comment?
Vance made the remark during a 2021 Fox News interview with Tucker Carlson, when he was an Ohio Senate candidate. TIME reported that he criticized Democrats as “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives” and named Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The clip resurfaced in July 2024, amid the presidential campaign. Vance was then Donald Trump’s vice-presidential running mate, and Harris had become the likely Democratic presidential nominee. The comment was from the earlier interview, not a new statement recorded in 2024. TIME’s account was published July 25, 2024, and updated in January 2026.

Why did Aniston mention IVF?
Her reference connected Vance’s criticism of people without children to the possibility of fertility treatment in his own family. She specifically invoked his daughter and IVF in the response reported by ABC News. TIME and ABC News also note that Aniston had previously spoken publicly about fertility struggles and IVF. That context helps explain why IVF featured in her criticism, but it does not establish further details about her private medical history.
How did Vance explain the remark?
Vance later described the comment as sarcastic and defended what he characterized as a broader argument about how parenthood shapes perspective and about the Democratic Party’s approach to children and family. The Trump campaign press secretary also said the remark was being taken out of context, according to TIME. Those are Vance’s and the campaign’s explanations of his words, not independent findings about their meaning.

Was Aniston’s Harris endorsement part of the same response?
No. Aniston’s criticism of Vance came in July 2024. In October, she separately endorsed Harris. The Independent reported that Aniston described her vote as one for “sanity and human decency.” That later endorsement was a distinct event, not part of the July Instagram Story.
