Stephanie Gosk filed for divorce from Jenna Wolfe in New York on January 28, 2026, according to reporting reviewed for this article. The filing followed a separation that Wolfe said began in September 2021. It does not, by itself, establish that the divorce had been finalized, and the available reports did not provide a final custody ruling or complete financial terms.

The former couple’s relationship story has also been discussed alongside Wolfe’s 2023 disclosure that she carried a BRCA1 mutation and chose to undergo risk-reducing surgery. Wolfe publicly described a hysterectomy followed by a mastectomy, but the available accounts do not establish exactly which reproductive organs were removed during the first operation.

What happened between Jenna Wolfe and Stephanie Gosk?

Gosk filed for divorce from Wolfe in New York on January 28, 2026, after nearly 13 years of marriage. Public reporting identifies the filing date and the person who filed, but does not show that a final divorce judgment had been entered at the time of the reports.

The filing came years after the couple had already separated. Wolfe said in 2023 that the separation occurred in September 2021. She described the breakup as the result of relationship strain during the COVID-19 pandemic, when both women were working from their New York City apartment while producing live television. Her public explanation did not identify a single dramatic event as the cause of the split.

The couple’s relationship and family

Wolfe publicly announced her relationship with NBC News correspondent Stephanie Gosk in 2013, along with news that they were expecting their first child. They married that year and later became parents to two daughters, Harper and Quinn.

When discussing the separation, Wolfe said that Gosk moved out in an effort to preserve the relationship in a different form. Wolfe characterized the two women as remaining friends and loving parents who were learning how to co-parent after the breakup.

Reports reviewed for this article did not establish the children’s current residence, custody arrangements, or financial-support terms. Those details should not be inferred from the divorce filing alone.

Wolfe’s BRCA1 disclosure and preventive surgeries

In 2023, Wolfe said she had tested positive for a BRCA1 mutation. She connected the decision to undergo genetic testing with her mother’s diagnosis of aggressive stage 3 breast cancer involving the lymph nodes.

A harmful inherited BRCA1 variant can increase a person’s risk of breast cancer and cancers of the ovary, fallopian tube, or peritoneum. A positive result does not mean that a person currently has cancer, nor does it mean cancer is certain to develop. It is a risk finding that can guide conversations about screening, family testing, medication, and risk-reducing surgery.

Wolfe said she first underwent a hysterectomy and had a second, larger operation planned roughly two weeks later. Later accounts identified the second operation as a mastectomy. Wolfe subsequently said the mastectomy was behind her and that recovery and healing were next. She described significant pain during recovery and said the two operations occurred approximately three weeks apart.

The public accounts describe the operations as preventive or risk-reducing. They do not establish that Wolfe had cancer, and they do not specify whether her hysterectomy included removal of the cervix, ovaries, or fallopian tubes.

What the surgeries mean medically

The terms involved in Wolfe’s account refer to different procedures:

Procedure What it generally involves Why the distinction matters
Hysterectomy Removal of the uterus. Depending on the operation, the cervix may or may not also be removed. A hysterectomy is not the same thing as removing the ovaries and fallopian tubes.
Mastectomy Removal of breast tissue. A bilateral mastectomy removes tissue from both breasts. Risk-reducing mastectomy lowers breast-cancer risk but cannot remove every potentially at-risk cell.
Risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy Removal of both fallopian tubes and both ovaries. This is the procedure most directly discussed in major clinical guidance for reducing ovarian and fallopian-tube cancer risk in people with harmful BRCA variants.

Because Wolfe’s public statements used the word “hysterectomy,” it would be inaccurate to assume that she also had a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Only a more detailed medical disclosure from Wolfe or her clinicians could establish the exact scope of the operation.

Why someone with BRCA1 may consider risk-reducing surgery

Genetic counseling is normally part of interpreting a BRCA result. Counseling can help a person understand whether a detected variant is harmful, place the result in the context of personal and family history, consider implications for relatives, and compare surveillance and risk-reduction options.

For people with disease-causing BRCA1 or BRCA2 variants, the National Cancer Institute says studies have found that bilateral risk-reducing mastectomy can reduce breast-cancer risk by at least 95% in women with those variants. That is a substantial reduction, but it is not a guarantee that cancer cannot occur because surgery cannot remove every breast-cell at risk.

For ovarian and fallopian-tube cancer risk, medical guidance generally distinguishes risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy from hysterectomy. Removing the ovaries before natural menopause can cause early menopause and related symptoms. As with any major operation, possible considerations include pain, infection, infertility, recovery time, and body-image concerns. These are general medical issues, not claims about Wolfe’s individual outcome beyond what she has publicly described.

What is confirmed—and what remains unknown

  • Confirmed in the available reporting: Gosk filed for divorce in New York on January 28, 2026.
  • Previously disclosed: Wolfe and Gosk separated in September 2021, according to Wolfe’s 2023 comments and subsequent reporting.
  • Family history and genetics: Wolfe said she tested positive for a BRCA1 mutation after her mother’s serious breast-cancer diagnosis.
  • Surgeries publicly described: Wolfe discussed a hysterectomy followed approximately three weeks later by a mastectomy.
  • Not established: That Wolfe had cancer, that the divorce was final, the precise organs removed during the hysterectomy, or the couple’s custody and financial arrangements.

The bottom line on the Wolfe-Gosk story

Two separate developments are being connected in coverage of Wolfe’s life: the end of her marriage to Gosk and her decision to reduce inherited cancer risk after learning that she carried a BRCA1 mutation. Wolfe’s public explanation linked the relationship’s fracture primarily to pandemic-era work and household strain, not to her later medical treatment.

The current legal development is a divorce filing—not necessarily a completed divorce. The medical development was a personal account of staged, preventive surgeries. It should not be generalized into a standard treatment plan: people with BRCA1 variants make decisions with genetic counselors, surgeons, gynecologists, oncologists, and other clinicians based on their own risk, age, family plans, and preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Jenna Wolfe and Stephanie Gosk officially divorced?

Stephanie Gosk filed for divorce from Jenna Wolfe in New York on January 28, 2026. The reports reviewed for this article did not establish that a final divorce judgment had been entered, so “filed for divorce” is more precise than saying the divorce was complete.

Did Jenna Wolfe have cancer?

The available public accounts say Wolfe tested positive for a BRCA1 mutation and underwent preventive or risk-reducing surgery. They do not report that she had been diagnosed with breast, ovarian, or another cancer.

What surgeries did Jenna Wolfe describe?

Wolfe publicly described having a hysterectomy followed by a mastectomy, with the operations occurring roughly three weeks apart. The available accounts do not clarify whether her ovaries or fallopian tubes were removed.

Is a hysterectomy the same as removing the ovaries and fallopian tubes?

No. A hysterectomy removes the uterus, while a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy removes both ovaries and fallopian tubes. They are distinct procedures, and one should not be assumed from the other.
