What is Jeff Goldblum’s four-ingredient sandwich?
AOL’s 2025 report says Goldblum described a sequence of sandwich favorites during a 2014 Reddit AMA, ending with: “Then, turkey and Swiss with Russian dressing.” The report also attributes “Oh my gosh, I love sandwiches” to him. The original AMA post was not available for independent verification, so these are best treated as quotations reported by AOL, not as a checked transcript. AOL’s account
The four ingredients are bread, sliced turkey, Swiss cheese and Russian dressing. The reported ingredient list allows homemade or store-bought dressing; it does not establish a single exact bread choice or a definitive amount of filling.
How to make the sandwich
- Set out two slices of bread, sliced deli turkey, Swiss cheese and Russian dressing. Sourdough is one adaptation, not a confirmed requirement of Goldblum’s reported version.
- Put Swiss cheese and folded or layered turkey on one slice of bread. One 2024 adaptation layers Swiss, turkey, another slice of Swiss and more turkey on sourdough.
- Add Russian dressing, then close the sandwich with the second slice of bread. That adaptation uses about a generous teaspoon; adjust to taste rather than treating it as a fixed celebrity-recipe measurement.

Why Russian dressing is the key flavor
Russian dressing gives the sandwich a tangy, sweet-and-spicy contrast to salty turkey and the nutty, buttery flavor of Swiss. Its texture and color can vary: some versions are thinner and red, while others are creamier. It is similar to Thousand Island dressing; Russian dressing is often described as spicier, but bottled recipes differ, so the distinction is not absolute.
Optional ways to change it
Keep the basic four ingredients for the reported version. If you want to adapt it, the 2024 recipe writer suggests avocado, leafy greens such as lettuce or kale, toasted or buttered bread, or preparing it as a panini or grilled-cheese-style sandwich. Chili crisp or sriracha can add more heat. These are optional variations, not ingredients attributed to Goldblum.
