JDC’s final match as an active in-ring competitor took place at TNA Genesis on January 17, 2026. He faced longtime friend and System ally Eddie Edwards in Dallas, and Edwards defeated him. JDC has described the decision as retirement from in-ring action—not a complete departure from wrestling.
When was JDC’s retirement match?
TNA announced on December 11, 2025, that JDC would retire from in-ring competition at Genesis, scheduled for January 17 at the Curtis Culwell Center in Dallas, Texas. The announcement followed JDC’s retirement declaration on TNA’s Thursday Night iMPACT in November. The planned match against Edwards took place at Genesis, where Edwards won, according to a February 2026 interview with JDC. TNA’s announcement and the later interview establish the plan and outcome.
Why did JDC decide to retire?
TNA’s announcement cited “recent life changes” but did not give a detailed explanation. In the February interview, JDC described the decision as one he and his wife made together. He said marriage had prompted him to think about what life after wrestling would look like, and that watching his recent matches made him feel he no longer moved as he once had.
JDC also told the Battleground Podcast on January 13, 2026, that he did not want to risk getting hurt and felt the timing offered a fitting ending. In the February interview, Moose—not a medical report—was the source of the comment that JDC had hip problems. JDC’s own explanation focused on how he felt physically in the ring, the risk of injury, and his life beyond competition.
Is JDC leaving wrestling completely?
No complete exit from wrestling has been announced in the sources available. JDC distinguished retiring from in-ring action from ceasing to be a wrestler. In his February 11, 2026, interview with Steph Franchomme, he said: “Nobody ever leaves the wrestling business. I know that. Stepping away from this business or retiring from in-ring action doesn’t mean you’re not a wrestler anymore. I’m always going to be a wrestler.” The quotation is from Franchomme’s interview; it does not, by itself, confirm a specific future role or appearance.
