Yes—Jason Momoa is returning to the Dune films as Duncan Idaho. Momoa said, “I’m going to be coming back” in a TODAY interview reported by TheWrap on March 31, 2025, and the official Dune: Part Three site now lists him in the cast.
What Jason Momoa said about returning
During an interview with TODAY host Craig Melvin, Momoa was asked whether he had “gotten a call” about the next Dune film. TheWrap reported his answer: “Yeah, there’s going to be… I’m going to be coming back.” Momoa added, “I’m making a comeback! You heard it first, right here with you, baby.”
The quoted exchange is from TheWrap’s March 31, 2025 report of the interview.
Who Momoa is playing
TheWrap identifies Momoa’s returning character as Duncan Idaho, the skilled fighter and loyal ally of House Atreides. Momoa played Duncan in Dune: Part One, where the character sacrifices himself during an attack. The official Dune: Part Three cast list includes Momoa.

Why Duncan’s return is possible
Duncan’s apparent death raised questions because Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah brings him back as a clone-like replica, according to TheWrap. That book context helps explain the return, but it is not confirmation of exactly how the film will handle Duncan or his story.
The official film site says Dune: Part Three is based on Herbert’s novels; it does not identify Dune Messiah on its page as the film’s direct source. Its synopsis instead places the story nearly two decades after Paul Atreides seized control of the Imperium. Paul is emperor, confronting the consequences of his rule amid returning allies, new threats, betrayal, visions of the Imperium’s collapse and a conspiracy with Chani at its heart.
