TheWrap also reported that producer Jason Blum said the sequel would not follow the first film’s simultaneous theatrical and Peacock release strategy. That was the announcement at the time; the film later began streaming exclusively on Peacock on April 3, 2026.
What Jason Blum’s April 2 update said
TheWrap’s April 2, 2025 CinemaCon report covered the sequel’s first teaser and its planned December 5, 2025 U.S. theatrical release. It also reported that Blum said the sequel would not use the first film’s day-and-date approach, which made that movie available in theaters and on Peacock at the same time. The report supports this paraphrase, not a direct quote from Blum.
The first film opened to $80 million over its opening weekend and grossed $291 million worldwide, according to TheWrap. Those figures refer to the original movie, not the sequel. Universal describes the original as having earned “almost $300 million worldwide,” a rounded promotional characterization rather than an exact total.

Release date and film credits
Universal’s official film page lists Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 for U.S. theatrical release on December 5, 2025. It credits Emma Tammi as director and Jason Blum and Scott Cawthon as producers. The film is based on Cawthon’s Five Nights at Freddy’s game series.

The key distribution distinction in the April 2025 update was the initial release plan: TheWrap reported that the sequel would not open in theaters and on Peacock simultaneously, unlike the first film. That did not mean the sequel would never stream. Peacock later announced that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 would stream exclusively on the service starting April 3, 2026.
Peacock’s date is later distribution information, not part of the April 2, 2025 CinemaCon announcement. Streaming availability can vary by territory, so check the service’s current listing where you live.

What the April 2 announcement did not establish
- No verified direct quotation from Blum about the update is established by the cited coverage; the distribution point should be treated as a report of his remarks.
- The December 5, 2025 date was the announced U.S. theatrical date, not a worldwide release schedule.
- The first film’s box-office figures are not sequel earnings or a forecast for the sequel.
