Jason found early success, went through a documented professional lull, then returned to prominence with Arrested Development in 2003. Justine became widely known as Mallory Keaton on Family Ties and later worked as an actor, writer, and director.

Jason Bateman’s sister is Justine Bateman, an actor and filmmaker. Their careers overlapped in television, but followed different trajectories: Jason’s early roles led to a later, well-documented resurgence, while Justine’s best-known acting role came early and was followed by further acting and creative work.
Was Justine Bateman on Family Ties?
Yes. Justine played Mallory Keaton on Family Ties, which TV Insider dates from 1982 to 1989. The role brought her broad recognition and two Emmy nominations for supporting actress, for the 1985/86 and 1986/87 seasons, according to TV Insider.
TV Insider says Justine became interested in show business after Jason had joined Little House on the Prairie. She went to his agency and found commercial work by age 15. The account shows an early connection between their paths, not that her career was simply an extension of his.

Did Jason Bateman have a career slump?
Jason began television work in 1981 and took roles in shows including Silver Spoons and The Hogan Family. Biography.com describes a professional lull after Some of My Best Friends, before Arrested Development marked a resurgence in 2003. That profile was updated April 5, 2021, so it is useful for this historical sequence, not as a guide to his current projects: Biography.com’s Jason Bateman profile.
The arc matters to the comparison: Jason’s career was not a steady climb from child and teen roles to lasting prominence. His later visibility followed a period when his work had slowed.

Those are Jason’s descriptions of their relationship; they do not establish estrangement or rivalry.
