Jamie Lee Curtis says she was speaking about Charlie Kirk’s faith—not endorsing his politics—when she expressed hope that he felt connected to God as he died. In an interview published October 28, 2025, she said an excerpt of her earlier comments had given a misleading impression and described some of the backlash as “threatening.”
What Curtis said about Kirk in September
Kirk was killed in a shooting at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, according to Us Weekly. Five days later, Curtis discussed his death on WTF with Marc Maron. She said, “I mean, I disagreed with him on almost every point I ever heard him say,” while also saying she believed he was a man of faith and hoped he felt connected to that faith when he died. Fox News reproduced the remarks; the podcast was the original setting for them.
How Curtis clarified the remarks
In a Variety interview published October 28, Curtis said an excerpt had made it sound as though she wished Kirk well in a broadly positive way. She explained: “I was simply talking about his faith in God.” She described some of the response as “threatening,” but the interview does not establish the nature or extent of those threats.
Curtis also said people can hold views that may seem contradictory and that she felt vilified for doing so. As her own example, she described being Jewish, supporting Israel’s right to exist, and rejecting the destruction of Gaza. That was her account of how she sees her positions and the reaction to them, not evidence of any particular critic’s motive.

Why some viewers reacted
Us Weekly reported that some viewers were confused by Curtis’s remarks because Kirk had publicly opposed transgender rights and Curtis’s daughter Ruby is trans. That is reported context for the reaction, not proof that all criticism had the same reason.

Curtis used “mistranslated” to describe how an excerpt conveyed her meaning. Her clarification concerned the impression created by the excerpt; she was not describing a formal translation. Her September remarks already contained both parts of her position: strong disagreement with Kirk’s views and a hope that he felt connected to his faith when he died.
