James Gunn confirmed that a new Wonder Woman movie is being written. Warner Bros. Discovery later included “the next Wonder Woman” among the DC films Gunn was preparing. The project has no confirmed release date, lead actor, plot or production start in the sources cited here.
What James Gunn confirmed
Gunn, DC Studios’ co-CEO, told Entertainment Weekly, as quoted by CNA: “We’re working on Wonder Woman. [It’s] being written right now.” CNA reported the statement as confirmation that the feature is in development and being written.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s August 7, 2025 shareholder letter also listed “the next Wonder Woman” among the DC film projects Gunn was preparing. That corporate mention places the film in the company’s slate, but it does not promise a release date. Read the shareholder letter filed with the SEC.
Who is writing the movie?
TheWrap reported on July 21, 2025 that Ana Nogueira had been tapped to write the film. The outlet also reported that DC Studios declined to comment, so Nogueira’s attachment is a trade-reporting detail, not a public studio confirmation. TheWrap’s report does not establish whether a screenplay is complete or when production might begin.

Is this the same project as Paradise Lost?
No. The movie is a feature focused on Wonder Woman; Paradise Lost is a separate television series about Themyscira and the Amazons, set before Diana’s birth. Gunn has described the film’s approach as distinct from the series, according to TheWrap. DC’s 2023 announcement introduced the series as part of its initial slate.
| Project | Format and focus | Known development details |
|---|---|---|
| New Wonder Woman | Feature film centered on Wonder Woman | Gunn said it was being written; TheWrap reported Ana Nogueira as writer. |
| Paradise Lost | Television series about Themyscira and the Amazons before Diana’s birth | Announced separately; it is not the Wonder Woman feature. |
What is not known yet
The cited sources do not establish a release date, cast, plot, production start or specific comic-book storyline being adapted. CNA reported that Gunn had not yet cast the role when he discussed the project, while a current GamesRadar guide lists the release date as TBC. Those sources do not provide a timetable or casting announcement. See GamesRadar’s release-date and development guide.

- Incredibly detailed 7” scale figure based off the DC Multiverse
- Designed with Ultra Articulation with up to 22 moving parts for full range of posing and play
- Wonder Woman is featured in a brand new design from the mind of Todd McFarlane

DC’s 2023 slate announcement described the broader DCU plan as flexible, not as a schedule for this particular movie. Peter Safran said, “This is a general timeline, but there will be flexibility within it.” That historical caveat should not be read as a current production update.

DC identifies the 2017 Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot and directed by Patty Jenkins, as the character’s earlier feature film, followed by Wonder Woman 1984. DC’s official page says the 2017 movie took in $822 million worldwide; the page does not state the year for that figure, so it is franchise context rather than evidence about the new film’s likely performance. DC’s Wonder Woman 1984 page includes the franchise details.
