The phrase “Bond returns to the big screen in 2026” refers to a different event: the anniversary rerelease of Casino Royale. That screening date was October 5, 2026, so it has passed. The announcement does not establish that the film remains in cinemas; check current local listings for any ongoing screenings.
Who is the next James Bond?

Villeneuve has described Bond as “sacred territory,” in a statement reported by the Associated Press in June 2025. That comment expresses his approach to the character; it does not identify the next actor or provide a timetable.
When will the next Bond movie be released?
Amazon MGM has not announced a release date. Earlier reporting should not be mistaken for a confirmed schedule: in June 2025, the Associated Press discussed 2027 only as a possibility if production began the following year. At CinemaCon in April 2026, the AP reported that Amazon MGM had no Bond news to share. Neither report set a release date, and the studio’s May update still left the date unannounced.

Amazon MGM’s current role follows a 2025 change in the franchise’s governance. The company said its joint venture with Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli closed on March 24, 2025, leaving them co-owners of Bond intellectual-property rights while giving Amazon MGM creative control over future productions. Amazon’s announcement describes the arrangement.

The announced cinema return was Casino Royale, Daniel Craig’s first film as Bond. The official James Bond site announced a worldwide theatrical rerelease for October 5, 2026, Bond Day, marking the film’s 20th anniversary. It gives the film’s UK premiere date as November 14, 2006.
