Jade Thirlwall recalled that she and Harry Styles went on about one date as teenagers, then lost touch after One Direction began its live shows. She said Styles later apologized for ignoring her when they met again the following year. When Louis Theroux asked, “He ghosted you?”, Thirlwall explained that Styles stopped messaging her once One Direction went on live shows. As quoted by The Independent, she said: “The minute they went on live shows, he didn’t message me back and I thought, that’s it now, he’s gone, he’s made it. And then I made it the next year, and then I saw him in the room after, and he was like, I’m really sorry that I ignored you.”
When they saw each other again
Thirlwall said they encountered each other the following year while she was competing on The X Factor with Little Mix. PerthNow describes the meeting as backstage after One Direction returned to the show to perform. Thirlwall recalled that Styles apologized for having ignored her.

How Thirlwall described the episode
Thirlwall played down the significance of the teenage date in the interview: “But I was so young it didn’t really matter,” she said, as quoted by Us Weekly. She also spoke warmly about Styles, describing him as lovely and talented.
