Will Smith made a surprise appearance during J Balvin’s Coachella Weekend 1 set on Sunday, April 14, 2024, joining the Colombian artist to perform “Men in Black.” The song’s arrival fit the show’s extraterrestrial staging, with UFO imagery and alien-styled dancers framing Smith’s return to the Agent J look.
Will Smith joins J Balvin for “Men in Black”
Balvin brought Smith onstage during his Coachella main-stage performance on April 14, the festival’s first weekend. Smith performed “Men in Black,” the song associated with the 1997 film of the same name. Access Hollywood’s video report, published the following day, also identifies the moment as a Sunday Weekend 1 appearance.
Smith’s suit-and-sunglasses presentation evoked Agent J, his character from the film. Rather than a standalone detour from Balvin’s set, the appearance was woven into its science-fiction theme.
How the alien staging shaped the moment
Balvin’s set used UFO imagery and an extraterrestrial visual concept. Rolling Stone Canada described alien-costumed dancers behind Smith as he performed. That staging gave the guest appearance a clear visual connection to the song and its film, while keeping the performance within Balvin’s larger alien-themed production.

Universal Music Canada’s April 14 announcement likewise described the set as extraterrestrial-themed and confirmed Smith’s appearance for “Men in Black.” The “boogies with aliens” framing captures the playful spectacle; the reported details are UFO imagery, alien-styled dancers and Smith performing in a familiar Agent J-inspired look.
Weekend 1 was distinct from Balvin’s Weekend 2 return
Balvin returned to Coachella on April 21 for a Weekend 2 performance that Universal Music Canada described as an encore. The label’s announcement recalled Smith’s appearance the previous weekend, but does not establish that Smith returned for the second set. The surprise performance belongs specifically to April 14.
