Brazilian singer IZA described her first performance in Angola as a homecoming. After appearing at Unitel Festa da Música in Luanda on July 3, 2022, she told Fantástico that she began to cry while trying to understand the feeling of returning to a place she had never visited.
What happened at the Luanda concert
IZA performed at Unitel Festa da Música in Luanda on July 3, 2022. Contemporary coverage described it as her first show in Angola and her first visit to Africa. After the performance, she thanked the audience in a social-media post reproduced by POPline: “Obrigada por esse encontro inesquecível!” (“Thank you for this unforgettable encounter!”). POPline’s July 4 report mentions songs including “Pesadão,” “Fé,” “Meu Talismã,” “Gueto” and “Ginga”; it does not establish that list as a complete setlist.
POPline reported that 20,000 people attended. That is a figure from secondary entertainment reporting, not an official festival count verified by the sources cited here. Its July 11 coverage also discussed IZA’s journey and the Fantástico feature that followed.
Why IZA called Angola a return home
In an interview with Maju Coutinho for Fantástico, aired July 10, IZA spoke of Angola as “Lugar de reencontro, lugar de volta pra casa” — “A place of reunion, a place of returning home.” She added: “Tentar entender isso não foi muito fácil. Eu comecei a chorar!” (“Trying to understand it wasn’t easy. I started to cry!”). These remarks are reproduced by Gshow’s July 10 interview coverage.

The visit to Queen Njinga Mbande’s monument
Gshow reports that IZA visited a monument dedicated to Queen Njinga Mbande during the trip. She reflected on the visit as a Black woman and on its effect on her creativity.
