It Happened One Summer is in development as a film adaptation of Tessa Bailey’s romance novel, but no release date, viewing platform or official trailer is confirmed in the sources checked as of October 8, 2026. Embankment Films, the producer, currently lists the project as “Scripted Post-Production.”
Is there an It Happened One Summer movie release date?
No release date or distributor/platform has been confirmed in the available producer information. Embankment Films’ official film page lists the project as “Scripted Post-Production,” but does not give a date or viewing destination. A TV Insider/Swooon update published August 13, 2026, also said whether the film would be theatrical or streaming remained unclear (update).

The production was earlier described as filming: Screen Global Production reported on August 4, 2026, that filming was underway in New York (report). That dated report is a production milestone, not a current release schedule; the producer’s present status is the more recent indicator.
Who is in the cast?
Embankment Films lists four cast members and director Peter Hutchings:
#1 Best Overall
- Nina Dobrev
- Tyler Hoechlin
- Virginia Gardner
- Gavin Leatherwood
The producer’s listing does not identify which character each actor plays, so character assignments are not confirmed there. Screen Global Production’s August 4, 2026 report covered Leatherwood joining the cast.
Is there an official trailer?
No official trailer was confirmed in the producer’s film page or its related announcements checked for this update. That means a trailer has not been established by those sources; it is not proof that no trailer exists anywhere. Until the producer or distributor posts one, treat unofficial clips or fan-made edits as distinct from an official trailer.

What is the movie about, and which book is it based on?
The film adapts Tessa Bailey’s It Happened One Summer, the first book in her Bellinger Sisters series. According to Embankment Films’ official synopsis, Piper Bellinger is a popular Los Angeles influencer sent to repair her late father’s dive bar in a coastal town. There she meets fisherman Brendan Taggart, prompting her to reconsider fame and relationships.
Embankment Films’ August 4, 2026 cast announcement, relaying Hollywood Reporter coverage, says the novel had sold two million copies in the United States. That figure refers to the book, not the film.
