Isla Fisher said she feels “so liberated” after two major life changes: her divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen and turning 50. She made the remarks at the TIME Women of the Year Gala in Los Angeles on March 10, 2026, about nine months after the divorce was finalized, according to WHO.
What Isla Fisher said about divorce and turning 50
In an interview with People, as reported by The Daily Beast, Fisher described divorce as freeing. “There’s something about being divorced where you just feel like you could just do anything,” she said. She added: “You could just do anything, and someone would be like, ‘Oh, don’t worry. She’s divorced.’ It’s so cool.”
She also connected that feeling with reaching 50: “I turned 50. I was so nervous about that, but it has felt so freeing. I feel so liberated.” The Daily Beast also quoted her saying, “I’m good. I’m so great.” These are Fisher’s personal reflections, not a claim that divorce or turning 50 feels the same for everyone.

Divorce timeline: filing and finalization
The couple jointly filed to end their marriage in 2023, according to The Daily Beast. They announced in 2025 that their divorce had been finalized. The 2023 date refers to the filing, not the completion of the divorce.
Their reported joint statement said: “We are proud of all we’ve achieved together and, continuing our great respect for each other, we remain friends and committed to co-parenting our wonderful children.” Fisher and Baron Cohen share three children, according to The Daily Beast. The statement also asked for respect for the family’s privacy.
