If you want an isekai anime where the protagonist is reincarnated—or otherwise arrives—in a non-human form, start with these five premise-verified picks. “Non-human” here includes monsters, undead bodies, and game avatars; some characters may have human-like forms or disguises, so the label does not promise they remain visibly non-human in every scene. These are anime adaptations, not manga-only or light-novel-only recommendations. The order is an editorial guide to different kinds of stories, not an objective ranking.
Five anime to start with
The requested title suggests a 12-entry ranking, but only five titles can be substantiated here with official premise descriptions. Rather than pad the list with unverified entries, this guide covers those five and explains what each offers.
So I’m a Spider, So What?
A high-school girl is reincarnated as a spider monster in a dangerous fantasy dungeon. The official anime site describes a survival premise built around her knowledge, optimism, webs, and traps. Choose this for a story in which the protagonist’s visibly monstrous body is central to getting through immediate dangers. Official anime site.
Overlord
Ainz is an undead ruler of the Sorcerer Kingdom. This is a fit for viewers interested in an undead avatar navigating power and rule among humans and other species, rather than a premise centered on escaping a dungeon in a monster body. The official franchise site describes Ainz as undead and identifies his role as ruler. Official site.

Skeleton Knight in Another World
Arc awakens in another world with the appearance of the game character he used: armor on the outside and a full skeleton underneath. Its starting hook is the contrast between a concealed undead body and life in the new world. The official introduction confirms the premise. Official introduction.
Re:Monster
Gobrou awakens reincarnated as a weak goblin and grows stronger by eating and evolving, according to the official site. Pick it if the appeal is progression from a low-status monster form rather than an undead avatar or an animal-like disguise. Official site.

Beheneko: The Elf-Girl’s Cat Is Secretly an S-Ranked Monster!
The protagonist dies and reincarnates as an S-rank behemoth, but looks like a kitten; an adventurer names him Tama. This is the clearest choice for viewers who want a cute animal appearance alongside a monster identity. The official episode-one story establishes both details. Official anime site.
Choose by the kind of non-human story you want
| Anime | Confirmed form and premise | Best fit if you want |
|---|---|---|
| So I’m a Spider, So What? | Spider monster; dungeon survival using webs, traps, and knowledge | A visibly non-human protagonist whose body drives the survival setup |
| Overlord | Undead Ainz; ruler of the Sorcerer Kingdom | An undead avatar and a story involving rule among different species |
| Skeleton Knight in Another World | Game-character appearance, with armor concealing a skeleton | A skeleton protagonist whose body is hidden beneath armor |
| Re:Monster | Weak goblin who grows stronger by eating and evolving | Monster progression through evolution |
| Beheneko | S-rank behemoth that looks like a kitten and is named Tama | A cute animal-like appearance paired with a monster identity |
What counts as a non-human protagonist?
The boundary matters: a character can have a non-human identity or body without looking monstrous all the time. Arc’s skeleton is covered by armor, and Tama’s behemoth identity comes with a kitten-like appearance. This guide includes those cases because the premise itself gives the protagonist a non-human form or identity in the new world; it does not require a permanently inhuman silhouette.

Where to watch
Streaming availability depends on country and changes over time, so check services in your own region. The official Skeleton Knight in Another World page lists Disney+, Netflix, Prime Video, and Hulu among services in Japan; the official Re:Monster page also lists Japanese streaming outlets including Netflix and Prime Video. Those listings do not establish availability in the United States or elsewhere.

“Best” is subjective, and no cited survey or critical consensus establishes a definitive order for this niche. The five entries above have official premise descriptions supporting their inclusion. A portal exists for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, but the available official result does not expose a plot passage confirming its premise, so it is not counted among the verified picks here. A longer list should add titles only after their anime premises are checked against suitable sources.
