Yellowstone, the original series, is over: Paramount’s catalogue lists five seasons, ending with season 5B, and 53 episodes. But the wider story continues in separate shows: Beth and Rip lead Dutton Ranch, renewed for season two, while Kayce’s story continues in Marshals, whose second season premiered October 4, 2026.
Is the original Yellowstone over?
Yes. Paramount’s catalogue lists the original Yellowstone as five seasons and 53 episodes, with season 5B premiering November 10, 2024. There is no confirmed sixth season of the original series in the sources cited here. The newer shows are separate series, not additional seasons of Yellowstone.

Kevin Costner, who played John Dutton, announced in June 2024 that he would not continue into season 5B or beyond. CBS News reported his words: “I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5b or into the future.” His departure and the end of the original show are related, but they do not mean the broader story world disappeared.
Which Yellowstone stories are continuing?

#1 Best Overall
Paramount reported that Dutton Ranch had 12.9 million global viewers in the seven days after its premiere. That is the company’s reported figure, not an independently audited estimate established here.
What happens to Kayce in Marshals?
Luke Grimes reprises Kayce Dutton in Marshals, another separate continuation rather than a new Yellowstone season. CBS’s official page lists October 4, 2026 as the premiere date for season two. Paramount announced on June 8, 2026 that production on that season had begun.
Rank #2
Paramount also reported an average of 20.4 million multiplatform viewers for the first eight episodes, using Nielsen multiplatform data and the measurement window described in its announcement. This figure and the Dutton Ranch premiere figure describe different measures and viewing windows, so they should not be treated as a direct comparison.
Where can you watch the new series?
Official materials identify Paramount+ as a viewing home for Dutton Ranch and describe Paramount+ streaming for Marshals; CBS is also the U.S. network associated with Marshals. Availability can vary by country and plan. The cited announcements do not establish what is available in every territory, so check the local service catalogue for current access.

Do all the original favorites return?
The confirmed character connections are Beth and Rip in Dutton Ranch, and Kayce in Marshals. Those announcements do not establish that every favorite character or original cast member appears in either series. The clearest way to follow the continuation is to choose the show tied to the character you want to see: Beth and Rip’s story is in Dutton Ranch, while Kayce’s is in Marshals.
