TRON: Ares leaves room for Sam Flynn and Quorra to return someday, but it does not make them the center of its story. Disney’s official materials instead focus on Ares and Eve Kim, while Jeff Bridges returns as Kevin Flynn. A further film—and any return for Sam or Quorra—has not been confirmed.
What story does TRON: Ares tell?
Disney describes Ares as a sophisticated Program sent from the digital world into the real one on a dangerous mission. As he encounters people, he begins to question his purpose and develops a sense of conscience. His story intersects with Eve Kim, a technologist and ENCOM CEO searching for a critical code written by Kevin Flynn. The central tension is the survival of Ares and Eve and what happens when technology and humanity meet. Disney’s film page and its production notes dated September 17, 2025 frame the movie as a new chapter in the franchise.

Director Joachim Rønning described his aim as making “something new, but familiar.” He said he was fascinated by Ares discovering “what it means to be human.” That framing points to a new lead and a new conflict in the established TRON universe, rather than a direct continuation led by Sam and Quorra.
Which TRON: Legacy characters return?
Kevin Flynn returns
Jeff Bridges reprises Kevin Flynn. Disney’s materials also make Flynn’s code important to Eve’s search, connecting the new story to the earlier films without making Sam or Quorra its announced leads. The Walt Disney Company’s October 9, 2025 feature confirms Bridges’s return.

Sam Flynn and Quorra are not the announced leads
Disney’s official synopsis and cast list focus on Ares and Eve and include Bridges, but do not list Garrett Hedlund or Olivia Wilde. The careful conclusion is that TRON: Ares is not presented as a continuation centered on Sam and Quorra. The official materials do not settle every possible archival image or brief reference, so they are not enough to make a categorical claim about every moment in the finished film.
Could Sam and Quorra return in a later film?
It remains possible, but there is no confirmed next installment or commitment to bring either character back in the cited post-release reporting. In an October 13, 2025 interview with TechRadar, Rønning said another film “always depends on how many people want to see it.” That is a conditional comment, not a greenlight or a promise about the characters’ futures. The status could change if Disney announces another film.
