Is There a Flipped 2 Movie in the Works?

No Flipped 2 movie has been officially confirmed in the sources reviewed as of October 8, 2026. Author Wendelin Van Draanen has said she will not write a sequel to the novel, but that is not the same as a studio ruling out a film sequel. There is no confirmed release date, plot, cast or production status to report.

Has Flipped 2 been announced?

No. The available sources do not establish that a second Flipped film is in development, filming or scheduled for release. A secondary article responding to the question also reported that it had found no official announcement, but no current statement from Warner Bros. or Castle Rock confirming or ruling out a sequel was identified.

That distinction matters: “not confirmed” does not mean “cancelled,” and it cannot settle whether private development discussions have taken place. Claims about a release date, returning cast members or a sequel plot would be speculation unless supported by a future official announcement.

What has the author said about a sequel?

Van Draanen’s position on a sequel to the book is clear. The publisher’s page for the updated anniversary edition says its added material includes the author’s essays on her inspirations, the making of the film and “why she’ll never write a sequel.” That describes her stance toward writing another novel; it does not amount to a film-studio decision.

In a Teen Ink interview, Van Draanen said she had received fan mail asking for a sequel. She also said she did not think a later movie project could top Rob Reiner directing a faithful adaptation of her book. Fan requests show that readers wanted more, but they are not evidence that a film was commissioned.

How is the original movie connected to the book?

Flipped is based on Van Draanen’s novel, which tells the story of Juli Baker and Bryce Loski in alternating chapters as their perspectives shift while they reach eighth grade. The publisher’s discussion guide says Rob Reiner directed the film and co-wrote its script with Andrew Scheinman. Reiner has described connecting with the story because it recalled feelings from the characters’ age; his interview also discusses family relationships in the film.

The original adaptation’s close relationship to the novel helps explain Van Draanen’s comments about what made the movie special to her. It does not indicate whether the studio or rights holders have considered another film.

Is there a Flipped book sequel instead?

Van Draanen has said she will not write a sequel to the novel, and the publisher says the anniversary edition includes an essay explaining why. The updated edition is still the original story, not a continuation or a source of news about a movie. Its additional back matter includes the author’s essays about the book and its adaptation.

In short, the evidence supports a firm answer about the author’s stated book plans, but not a permanent verdict on what a studio might do with the film rights. Until a primary announcement appears, a Flipped 2 movie remains unconfirmed.
