Not according to any official announcement. The post-apocalyptic claim comes from December 2025 reports about a purported Pokémon Pokopia map, not from confirmed details about the next mainline games. The Pokémon Company has since announced Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves for 2027, describing islands and ocean—not a ruined world.
Which Pokémon game is the post-apocalyptic claim about?
The claim is about Pokémon Pokopia. In December 2025, Insider Gaming and Kotaku reported on a map attributed to the leak account CentroLeaks. The reports described locations bearing familiar Kanto names as damaged or abandoned. Neither report establishes that the map is authentic, final, or an official account of the game’s lore.

Insider Gaming said the alleged map described Fuchsia as dried-out, unfertilized land; Pewter as an abandoned mine covered by rocks; and Viridian as a forest of ash. Kotaku also reported translated descriptions of ruined or overgrown Kanto locations, including an electrically stormy harbor. These are claims relayed by leak coverage, not details confirmed by The Pokémon Company.
What did the reports actually establish?
The articles framed the map as a leak and the post-apocalyptic reading as a possibility. Insider Gaming noted that the interpretation might not be correct and raised the possibility of an alternate universe. A damaged setting alone also does not establish that a game is formally set after an apocalypse.

The original CentroLeaks post could not be accessed directly for verification. That leaves the map’s provenance and the accuracy of its translated labels unresolved. Development can also change before release. The careful description, then, is that reports attributed a map to a leak account and interpreted some labels as depicting ruined Kanto areas—not that a post-apocalyptic setting has been confirmed.
How does that compare with the officially announced games?
On February 27, 2026, The Pokémon Company announced Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves as new entries in the series. The company says both are planned for a simultaneous worldwide release in 2027, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. Its announcement describes an open world of islands and ocean, with Pokémon living in harmony with a lush environment. It does not describe a post-apocalyptic setting.

| Question | Pokémon Pokopia leak reports | Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves |
|---|---|---|
| Which games? | Pokémon Pokopia | The newly announced series entries |
| Evidence | Reports about a purported CentroLeaks map; the original post could not be independently accessed here | Official announcement from The Pokémon Company |
| Setting described | Reported translations depict damaged or abandoned Kanto-named locations | Official description emphasizes windswept islands, a vast ocean, and lush nature |
| Certainty | Unverified leak material and interpretation | Confirmed announcement details; the games are planned for 2027 |
The distinction matters: the headline’s “next game” is ambiguous. The leak story concerns Pokopia; the officially announced upcoming mainline entries are Winds and Waves. Their announced setting does not match the post-apocalyptic description.
Where to check for confirmed release news
Pokémon Support says announcements about releases are made first on pokemon.com. For news about an unannounced title or setting, an official announcement is a stronger basis than a leak report or a translated map circulating online.

What is known about Pokopia’s release format?
Separately from the setting claim, Insider Gaming reported that Pokémon Pokopia was due March 5, 2026, and that non-downloaded copies use a game key card to unlock a download. That description does not mean the card contains the full game as a conventional cartridge. Check the specific regional listing for its current format.
