Yes, the Community movie remains a planned project, but there is still no confirmed filming start or release date. In March 2025, Joel McHale said it had funding and a written script, with cast schedules the practical hurdle. His “Everybody dies” line was a joke—not a plot reveal. Peacock’s later official update, in March 2026, still described creator Dan Harmon as planning the movie.
Is the Community movie actually happening?
It is an officially announced project, and McHale’s 2025 comments indicated meaningful development work had taken place. But the latest official status in the sources here is still that Harmon was planning the movie—not that it had begun filming or received a release date.

Peacock announced the film on October 3, 2022, describing it as a continuation of the comedy for Peacock audiences. The announcement named creator Dan Harmon and executive producer Andrew Guest, and identified Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong as returning. That is the announced group, not confirmation of a final cast list. Peacock’s announcement
What did Joel McHale say about the movie?
On the March 11, 2025 episode of Dinner’s On Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, McHale said Peacock had provided the money, that a script had been written, and that assembling schedules was the remaining practical challenge. He also said he had read the script and would not reveal its details. His summary was: “It’s really coming down to schedules, and a script was written, so all that is real.” Read the interview transcript.

“Everybody dies” is not a spoiler
Asked about the film, McHale quipped, “Everybody dies.” The remark was a deliberately vague joke, not a verified synopsis, confirmed ending or reliable clue about which characters appear. McHale said he would not disclose the script’s details.
What is the latest confirmed status?
In a March 25, 2026 Peacock update, the company described Community creator Dan Harmon as still planning a movie. That is the later official status reference, and it does not announce a shoot date, production start or release window. Peacock’s March 2026 update

The dated updates therefore establish a movie announcement, McHale’s account of funding, a script and scheduling in 2025, and continued planning in 2026. They do not establish that filming has started. No release date is confirmed in these statements.
