No—Sunfyre survives. In House of the Dragon, the dragon is badly injured at Rook’s Rest in Season 2, Episode 4, and the episode ends without confirming whether he is alive. Later Season 3 events show him awaken and attack the opposing army. The book Fire & Blood also has Sunfyre survive, though the show may change when and how events unfold.
What happened to Sunfyre at Rook’s Rest?
In Season 2, Episode 4, “The Red Dragon and the Gold,” King Aegon II flies Sunfyre into the battle at Rook’s Rest. Vhagar enters the fight, and the episode ends with Aegon and Sunfyre downed. Sky’s recap describes Aegon’s life as hanging in the balance, with his body beside the dragon; it does not confirm Sunfyre’s death. Sky’s episode recap
That ending is a cliffhanger, not a death scene. Sunfyre is severely hurt, but the episode leaves his fate unresolved.
When does the show confirm Sunfyre is alive?
Season 3 returns to Rook’s Rest. Aegon and Larys find Sunfyre there, and Aegon believes he can hear a heartbeat, but that moment does not settle the question. A later Season 3 episode shows Sunfyre awaken after Aegon speaks and attack the opposing army, confirming that the dragon survived. GamesRadar+’s Season 3 reporting

Fire & Blood book spoilers: what happens to Sunfyre?
Fire & Blood also has Sunfyre survive his injuries at Rook’s Rest. In the book account, he is too wounded to fly and is left near the castle to recover and be fed. After the castle changes hands, men attack him; he fights back and later disappears. Sunfyre goes on to play a consequential role in the story of Aegon and Rhaenyra.
