Suits LA has a much weaker critics’ score than the original Suits: Rotten Tomatoes lists it at 36% from 33 critic reviews, compared with 91% from 118 reviews for the original. That gap signals a clear difference in critical reception, but the shows were judged by different groups of critics—and an aggregate score cannot decide which one you will enjoy.
How do the review scores compare?
The current aggregator figures show a mixed-to-negative critical reception for Suits LA, versus a strong critics’ score for the original. Audience measures are separate and use different scales, so they should not be read as equivalents to critic percentages.
| Measure | Suits LA | Original Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Rotten Tomatoes critics | 36% Tomatometer from 33 reviews (Rotten Tomatoes, accessed 2026). Source | 91% Tomatometer from 118 reviews—107 fresh and 11 rotten—with a 7.8/10 average rating (Rotten Tomatoes, accessed 2026). Source |

Rotten Tomatoes’ critic percentage is the share of counted reviews classified as positive, while an average rating and audience score measure different things. The numbers are live snapshots and may change as more reviews or ratings are added.
Why did critics respond more warmly to the original?
The original had a built-in relationship engine
In her February 23, 2025 review for TIME, correspondent Eliana Dockterman points to the original’s defining premise: Mike Ross has no law degree, but his exceptional memory helps persuade Harvey Specter to hire him. The concealed credential gives the legal cases an ongoing personal risk and ties the procedural plots to the evolving Mike-Harvey relationship.

That setup gave the original a durable source of tension beyond whether a case would be won. Viewers could also follow the danger of discovery and watch the partnership develop under that pressure.
Suits LA asks viewers to absorb Ted Black’s past quickly
Dockterman argues that the first episode of Suits LA introduces a lot of Ted Black’s backstory through abrupt flashbacks before viewers have enough context for the relationships. She says episodes two and three settle somewhat, but sees the show as closer to a generic legal procedural than the original’s particular blend of cases and character tension.
Her criticism is not that the spinoff lacks legal work; it is that the early structure and backstory make it harder to invest in the people and their connections before the plot moves on.
Does the spinoff have chemistry of its own?
Reviews are not unanimous about the cast. Dockterman finds less immediate chemistry than the original had between Mike and Harvey, writing that the new characters lack “the chemistry Adams and Macht found onscreen” in the original’s early encounter.

A more favorable view appears in the Decider review by Joel Keller displayed on Metacritic. Keller credits Stephen Amell and Lex Scott Davis with strong performances and argues that the show’s banter and character work are part of what makes the spinoff worth watching. Taken together, the reviews suggest a distinction between performers who can be appealing and a central relationship that critics may not find as instantly compelling as Mike and Harvey’s.
Is Suits LA more procedural than the original?
That is one of the clearest differences in Dockterman’s comparison. She describes the original’s cases as secondary to its serialized concealment story and relationship arc, while judging Suits LA to be more procedural. If you most enjoyed the original for the ongoing secret and the pressure it put on a partnership, the spinoff’s approach may feel less gripping. If you are more interested in legal cases, a Los Angeles setting, and a new ensemble, the shift may matter less.

Who is likely to enjoy Suits LA?
- You may prefer the original if Mike and Harvey’s partnership, the hidden-credential stakes, or the balance of banter and serialized tension were central to your enjoyment.
- You may still find the spinoff worthwhile if you want a new legal ensemble and are open to a more procedural rhythm; Keller’s positive note about Amell and Davis’s performances offers one reason critics did not dismiss it outright.
- Give the opening more than one episode if the first installment’s flashbacks make the relationships feel hard to follow: Dockterman says the second and third episodes settle somewhat.
As listed by Rotten Tomatoes, Suits LA is an NBC TV-14 series released February 23, 2025. These reception figures do not establish current streaming availability in a particular country; catalogs can vary and change.
