Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club is a strong fit for fans who want a guided, themed introduction to Dungeons & Dragons in a ready-to-play box. It pairs four adventures for level 1–3 characters with premade heroes, quick-start guidance, dice, maps, cards, and tokens. That makes it a plausible on-ramp—not a proven best choice for every newcomer.
What is Welcome to the Hellfire Club?
Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club is a physical Dungeons & Dragons boxed set from Wizards of the Coast. The publisher lists it as an English-language product released October 7, 2025, for 3–5 players, with a listed MSRP of $49.99. MSRP is the publisher’s price, not a guarantee of a retailer’s current price or stock. Wizards Play Network product listing
The set contains four adventures for level 1–3 characters: The Vanishing Gnome, Scream of the Crop, Ballad of the Rat King, and Devil, Metal, Die! D&D Beyond frames them as a continuation of Eddie Munson’s unfinished campaign, written and narrated in his voice. That is the product’s premise; it should not be mistaken for a recovered transcript or verified recreation of a particular campaign shown on-screen. D&D Beyond’s overview

- One Dungeon Master’s screen and a double-sided Hellfire Club poster

- 72 player-character and monster tokens
- Two double-sided poster maps and four in-world handouts
- 15 character sheets and a combat-tracker notepad
- 11 dice
- A quick-start guide, four adventure booklets, and a play-guide booklet
D&D Beyond identifies five premade heroes: Lady Applejack, Nog the Dwarf, Sundar the Bold, Tayr the Paladin, and Will the Wise. Their sheets come with stats, abilities, and gear already filled in. The quick-start guide helps players choose roles and get started without reading every rule first; the play guide explains fundamentals and includes a rules glossary. Those are practical supports for a first session, though they are not evidence that every beginner will find the game easy. Wizards Play Network D&D Beyond
Is it a good way to start D&D?
It is especially appealing if a new group wants structure and already likes Stranger Things. Premade characters reduce setup, the quick-start material provides an entry point into the rules, and the adventures give a group a defined first sequence of play. The box also includes physical tools—such as maps, tokens, and a DM screen—rather than leaving those pieces to be sourced separately.

The trade-off is that the experience is deliberately themed and bounded: these are four low-level adventures, not a general-purpose guide to every style of D&D campaign. Players drawn to a different setting, more open-ended campaign planning, or a digital-first game may prefer another starting point. No comparative beginner study or independent test establishes that this set is the best option for all new players.
What makes it a fit for Stranger Things fans?
The show connection is present in the premise, artwork, and characters, not just on the packaging. Players take on D&D-style versions of familiar protagonists and follow adventures associated with Eddie; the listed foes include Demogorgons and Demodogs. D&D Beyond describes the components as retro and Hawkins-inspired. For fans, that gives the introductory material a recognizable frame while retaining conventional D&D play aids. Can you play with three players, and how long does it take?
Yes. Wizards lists the set for 3–5 players, so a three-player group is within the stated range. D&D Beyond says sessions can run for a couple of hours, but that is publisher guidance rather than a fixed duration; a first-time group may take longer while learning the rules. Can you play Welcome to the Hellfire Club online?
D&D Beyond describes an Ultimate Bundle that combines the physical box with a digital adventure pack for use with D&D Beyond Maps. It includes five premade characters and four quickplay maps preloaded with monsters and tokens, plus fog of war and sticker packs for the Maps virtual tabletop. The bundle also unlocks Upside Down digital dice and a digital map-and-sticker pack. Because bundle availability and account or subscription requirements can change, check the current D&D Beyond offer before buying; the physical listing alone does not establish those details.
