ScreenRant’s description of it as an “energetic, old-fashioned creature feature” points to its blend of horror, tongue-in-cheek comedy and familiar monster-movie pleasures, rather than to a formal genre label.
What is Sting about?
Written and directed by Kiah Roache-Turner, Sting follows Charlotte, a 12-year-old who discovers a spider and keeps it as a secret pet. The creature becomes increasingly dangerous as it grows, putting Charlotte’s family and the residents of their apartment building at risk. Well Go USA’s official synopsis describes the spider’s transformation into a giant, flesh-eating monster.

The setup turns a familiar fear—an unexpectedly large spider in an enclosed home—into a creature-feature threat. The apartment setting keeps the danger close to the characters, while Charlotte’s attachment to the animal gives the premise a family-drama element.
What does “old-fashioned creature feature” mean here?
In ScreenRant’s review coverage, “old-fashioned” describes the film’s recognizable monster-movie approach: a simple creature premise, escalating danger, horror mixed with wry comedy, and a combination of practical effects and CGI. The review draws comparisons to Arachnophobia and Evil Dead; those are its points of reference, not evidence of a consensus ranking or an official description.

The same review sees familiarity as a weakness as well as a source of appeal, noting predictable story elements and limited character development. Viewers looking for an effects-led spider movie may be more interested in the creature and escalating threat than in an especially intricate family story.
How scary or graphic is it?
Content guidance varies by territory and version. For its home-entertainment version, the British Board of Film Classification lists strong violence, bloody images, threat and language, and gives a runtime of 91 minutes 40 seconds. The BBFC classification record is a useful guide for UK viewers, but classifications are not a guarantee of how frightening an individual viewer will find the film.
Ireland’s classification office describes strong, gory horror and strong language in its record for the film. These warnings suggest that Sting is not simply a light comic adventure: it includes bloody horror imagery and threat alongside its comedic tone.
