Amy is explicitly in love with Sonic, but SEGA has not confirmed that Sonic is romantically in love with her or that they are a couple. Its account describes a growing bond of trust and partnership while leaving the romantic question open.
What SEGA says about Amy’s feelings
SEGA’s Japanese-language Sonic Channel retrospective, published February 22, 2021, says Amy first meets Sonic in Sonic CD and falls in love with him. The account describes her continuing to pursue him, including after Sonic rescues her from Metal Sonic.
How their relationship develops
The retrospective also presents Amy as more than a love-struck admirer: she grows into an active hero and a reliable partner. In Sonic Adventure, Sonic trusts her enough to yield to her request, and their shared adventures build a bond of trust. Those details support affection and partnership, but they do not establish romantic reciprocity.
Does Sonic love Amy back, or are they a couple?
The retrospective portrays Amy’s advances and Sonic’s reserved reactions as an ongoing back-and-forth, then leaves readers with an open question about what their relationship means. It does not report a confession from Sonic, confirm that he is romantically in love with Amy, or declare them an official couple. The source is in Japanese, so its nuance should not be presented as an English-language official quote without checking a translation.
#1 Best Overall
In short, the official account reviewed here confirms Amy’s romantic feelings and their growing trust, not Sonic’s romantic feelings. Trust, affection, and being reliable partners are meaningful parts of their relationship, but they are not the same as a confirmed couple status.
