No credible evidence shows that Selena Gomez is a clone or has been replaced. The latest wave of online speculation followed photos of her leaving a Los Angeles recording studio on October 6, 2026, which prompted comparisons with images from earlier in her career. Those comparisons—and a purported email screenshot circulating online—do not establish that she died, was cloned, or was replaced.

Why the rumor is circulating again

IndiaTimes reported on October 7, 2026, that photos of Gomez leaving a Los Angeles recording studio the previous day spread across social media. Some users compared her appearance with pictures from the mid-2010s, while others joked that the “real” Gomez had returned or that a clone had been spotted. Fans also pushed back on the theory. These are examples of social-media reactions reported by the outlet, not polling or evidence about Gomez’s identity. IndiaTimes’ October 7 report

India Today had described a renewed round of speculation after Gomez appeared at the September 14, 2026, Emmys, where some commenters said she looked different. A public appearance can prompt comparisons; it cannot verify the claims those comparisons inspire. India Today’s explainer

What the purported screenshot does—and does not—show

IBTimes UK reported on February 9, 2026, on a cropped image circulating online that contains the phrase “decided about Selena.” According to the report, the image has no date, recipient list, full email chain, or digital metadata. It does not identify which Selena it refers to, and it does not name Gomez by surname or profession. IBTimes UK’s report

IBTimes UK also reported that the screenshot does not appear in authenticated releases of Epstein documents and that it found no court filing, investigative report, or sworn testimony connecting Gomez to Epstein. The image is therefore unverified and cannot support the claim that Gomez died or was replaced. It should not be described as a genuine Epstein email or as a document that names Gomez.

Does Gomez’s health history explain the comparisons?

IndiaTimes reports that Gomez publicly disclosed lupus in 2015, underwent a kidney transplant in 2017, and has discussed medication-related water retention and weight changes. Social-media users have invoked that history while commenting on her appearance. It is relevant context, but it is not evidence of a clone or replacement. Those facts also do not establish that a particular condition or medication caused a specific visual change. IndiaTimes’ report

How to assess the claim

A side-by-side image can show that two pictures look different. It cannot, on its own, establish identity, death, cloning, or when an alleged replacement occurred. To assess a claim like this, separate the allegation from the evidence offered for it, then ask whether that material is authenticated, clearly identifies Gomez, and is independently corroborated. The reviewed coverage identifies no authenticated documentary or forensic evidence supporting the clone claim. IndiaTimes; IBTimes UK; Factually’s overview
