Quarantine Zone: The Last Check is not a The Last of Us story, crossover, or canonical expansion. It is a separate zombie-outbreak checkpoint simulator that explores a related premise from a different angle: what happens when someone must screen arrivals, ration resources, and decide who can enter a fragile safe zone.
What Quarantine Zone: The Last Check is about
Developed by Brigada Games and published by Devolver Digital, Quarantine Zone: The Last Check is a single-player simulation and strategy game set during a zombie outbreak. Its official premise is a “border simulator”: the player inspects survivors, decides who is trusted, quarantined, or turned away, manages refugees and infrastructure, and defends the base from zombie attacks. Steam’s game listing describes inspection tools, contraband detection, quarantine and laboratory screening, scarce-resource management, and armed drone defense; the official website frames the player’s decisions as consequential.
That job is a useful lens on outbreak fiction. Instead of following a small group through dangerous territory, the game centers on the checkpoint machinery that sorts people and allocates protection. The premise makes visible the institutional decisions that a character-led survival story may leave in the background.
Why people compare it with The Last of Us
The overlap is thematic, not canonical: both involve a post-outbreak world where infection fears and authority shape who is allowed near safety. The most direct public comparison came from GamesRadar, which called the role a “Last of Us-style FEDRA agent.” That is a press analogy, not a statement from Brigada Games about influence or shared lore.
#1 Best Overall
The phrase “an unseen part” works as a metaphor for a change of perspective: from the survivors’ journey to the administrators deciding who gets through the gate. It should not be read as a lost chapter, hidden location, or extension of The Last of Us. The official description and Steam listing present Quarantine Zone as its own game; they do not establish a connection to the franchise.
How the two kinds of outbreak story differ
| Comparison | Quarantine Zone: The Last Check | The Last of Us |
|---|---|---|
| Player perspective | Checkpoint and base administrator, inspecting arrivals and managing a refuge. | Survivor protagonists moving through a dangerous world. |
| Central activity | Classifying people, allocating scarce resources, and defending the base. | Traversal, immediate survival, and character-led action. |
| Scale of moral pressure | Institutional choices affecting a population: who is admitted, isolated, or rejected. | Personal relationships and decisions made amid immediate danger. |
| Story status | A separate simulator; no canonical connection to The Last of Us is established by the cited game materials. | An established franchise with its own setting and canon. |
This is a comparison of premise and player role, not a claim that the games are interchangeable or that one is a documentary account of the other. Quarantine Zone makes sorting and resource decisions its core activity; the broader moral tension comes from how those systems affect individual people.
