Reports also say Prince William has declined offers to take part in anniversary documentaries; there is no confirmed statement that he opposes Harry’s possible project.
Is Prince Harry making a documentary about Princess Diana?
Not yet, based on the available reporting. A source close to Harry told The Independent that he had discussed “a number of possible projects” to mark the anniversary, while stressing that “nothing has been finalised or confirmed.” The Independent summarized a report by The Telegraph; the unnamed source’s comments establish discussion, not a production commitment.
The Independent said a film could be made by Archewell Productions and might be picked up by Netflix under a reported first-look deal. Those are possibilities described in the coverage, not confirmation that either company has agreed to make or distribute a documentary. No release date or finalized distribution arrangement has been reported.
What is reported about Prince William’s response?
The Daily Beast’s Tom Sykes reported that William had declined several offers to make or appear in documentary tributes to Diana, attributing that account to The Sunday Times. Separately, Marie Claire reported that William’s spokesperson declined to comment on how he would mark the anniversary. Neither report establishes that William has publicly criticized Harry’s possible project or privately opposed it.

In the brothers’ 2017 ITV documentary, William said: “We won’t be doing this again. We won’t speak as openly or publicly about her again.” The Daily Beast reproduced that statement. It describes what William said in 2017, not a new response to the current reports.
What might the brothers do for Diana’s 30th anniversary?
The reported plans differ in format and remain unsettled. Harry is linked to a possible film or other project; a separate report relayed by Marie Claire says a thanksgiving service involving both brothers was being seriously considered. The service has not been confirmed, and there is no confirmed joint appearance.

Why the story is drawing renewed attention
Coverage appeared amid renewed interest in Diana’s family history following the 2026 publication of her brother Charles Spencer’s memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister. The Associated Press describes allegations Spencer makes about the royal family and the 1997 funeral. Those are Spencer’s claims as presented in his memoir, not independently established facts. AP also notes that William and Harry were 15 and 12 during the funeral procession.
Diana died in 1997 at age 36, according to a September 2026 Reuters Connect item relaying Cover Media narration. The 30th anniversary therefore falls in 2027.
