If you’re a fan who can’t wait for next week’s episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty, My Oxford Year is a feature-film romance worth considering. TechRadar recommended it as a romantic, emotionally appealing interlude; the comparison is an editorial suggestion, not an official connection between the titles.
What is My Oxford Year about?
Based on Julia Whelan’s novel of the same name, the 2025 film follows Anna, an American student played by Sofia Carson, who travels to Oxford, England. There she meets Jamie, played by Corey Mylchreest, and a romance begins. Search for Julia Whelan’s My Oxford Year if you’d rather read the source novel; specific differences between the book and film are not established here.
Why might it appeal to The Summer I Turned Pretty fans?
The recommendation rests on romantic escapism and emotional appeal, rather than a shared story or franchise. The formats differ: My Oxford Year is a feature film, while The Summer I Turned Pretty is a series with a continuing story. That makes the film a possible one-sitting romance while you wait, but it won’t continue the series’ plot.
TechRadar made the comparison in an August 1, 2025 article, presenting the film as a satisfying romance to watch between episodes. Whether it works for you depends on wanting a standalone romantic story rather than another installment of the series.

Where was it filmed?
Location reporting by Jetset Times names Magdalen College, Christ Church College, Hertford College, St Hugh’s College, and the Bodleian Library among the Oxford filming sites. The article also reports that King Neptune Fish & Chips, shown in an Oxford scene, is actually in Windsor. Treat these as reported filming locations, not visitor guidance; check with the relevant venue or institution before planning a visit.
