Yes—Hatsune Miku’s official character profile lists her age as 16. That is the character’s fictional setting age, not the age of the software: Crypton Future Media dates the first software release to August 31, 2007.
What “16” means in Miku’s profile
Crypton Future Media, Miku’s developer and official licensor, lists her age as 16 on its official character profile. The official Piapro character page likewise describes Miku as software and gives her age as 16.
These are character-profile details, not measurements or biographical facts about a real person. Crypton’s 2023 announcement clarifies that 16 is the setting age of the character depicted on the software package.
Why the 2007 release date does not make her older
Crypton dates the first Hatsune Miku singing-synthesis software release to August 31, 2007. The elapsed time since that release belongs to the software’s anniversary timeline; it does not replace the character’s stated setting age.

In 2023, Crypton referred to the occasion as Miku’s “16th birthday” and described her as a 16-year-old virtual singer. Another Crypton announcement said she was born in 2007 “with the setting age of 16,” distinguishing the milestone from ordinary aging. The birthday language is anniversary and project framing, while the profile age remains 16.
Why Miku is both software and a character
Miku is a singing-synthesis voicebank associated with a virtual-singer character. The character gives users a recognizable persona to connect with the software. In a 2023 Associated Press interview, Crypton CEO Hiroyuki Itoh explained the approachable design goal: “We wanted to make it easy to use for amateurs who want to make music as a hobby.” The character’s age is established by Crypton’s profile and explanation, not by that interview.

Does this apply to every Miku portrayal?
The official profile establishes her standard character setting, but it does not establish one universal storyline for every game, song, concert, or alternate design. If a particular work gives Miku a different context, interpret that portrayal within that work rather than treating it as a change to the general profile.
