Kate Bush said she was keen to start a new album—but in her BBC Radio 4 interview on 25 October 2024, she also said she was not working on new material at that moment. Her comments expressed an intention, not confirmation that recording had begun or that a release was forthcoming.
What did Kate Bush say about a new album?
Asked whether she was working on new material, Bush told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “Not at the moment, but I’ve been caught up doing a lot of archive work over the last few years, redesigning our website, putting a lyric book together. And I’m very keen to start working on a new album when I’ve got this finished. I’ve got lots of ideas and I’m really looking forward to getting back into that creative space, it’s been a long time.”
She added that she had felt “really ready to start doing something new,” particularly over the previous year. The Guardian reported the interview and quotes on 25 October 2024: The Guardian’s report.
Is Kate Bush working on a new album now?
The interview establishes that Bush wanted to begin work after completing the projects she described; it does not establish that she had started writing or recording an album. The materials reviewed for this update do not establish whether she has since begun recording or officially announced a new studio album by 8 October 2026. Her 2024 remarks should not be read as a current release announcement.

Why was she interviewed?
Bush was discussing Little Shrew, a short animation she wrote and directed, set to her 2011 song “Snowflake.” The film was presented as a way to draw attention to children affected by war, with viewers encouraged to support War Child. The Guardian covered the film alongside the interview: read the report.
What has Bush released since those comments?
Later official releases and statements provide catalog context, but do not confirm the new studio album Bush discussed. Fish People’s official page says Best of the Other Sides was scheduled for digital release on 26 September 2025 and CD and vinyl on 31 October 2025. It is an 11-track release, not the prospective album mentioned in the interview: Fish People release information.
