No. Usha Vance was raised in the Hindu faith; JD Vance is Catholic. In a June 2026 interview, Usha said public assumptions that her husband was pressing her to convert had misunderstood their relationship. She said he does not proselytize to her every day.
What religion is Usha Vance?
Usha Vance was raised in a Hindu household in Southern California, according to CBS News’s June 14, 2026 interview. She has also described growing up with Hinduism and Hindu parents in an interview reported by TIME in July 2024. These accounts establish her religious upbringing; they do not establish a later conversion to Catholicism.
What have the Vances said about conversion?
JD Vance converted to Catholicism in 2019, five years after the couple married. In October 2025, he said Usha was not Christian and had no plans to convert, while expressing hope that she might someday share his beliefs. The Associated Press report also notes that Hindu rites were part of their 2014 wedding ceremony.
In the 2026 CBS interview, Usha addressed public speculation about her husband’s interest in her conversion. She said the idea had been misunderstood, explaining that spreading one’s faith is part of Catholicism, but that JD was not proselytizing to her every day. Her comment is about how she understood his conduct; it is not a statement that she had converted.

Does the children’s religion mean Usha is Catholic?
No. The AP reported that the couple decided to raise their children as Christian and described Catholic sacraments in their family’s practice. Those details concern the children and household practice, not Usha’s own religious affiliation. Christianity is also broader than Catholicism: being described as Christian would not, by itself, establish that someone is Catholic.
