A short text after a first date left Elizabeth Castaldi wondering whether a 35-year-old man was uninterested—or simply texting in a way she read differently. Her story, reported by PerthNow in May 2024, shows how ambiguous digital tone can feel. It does not establish that intergenerational dating is becoming harder.
What happened after the first date?
PerthNow reporter Artemisia Blythe described Castaldi’s TikTok account of a message exchange after a date with a 35-year-old man. He texted, “Hey, had fun last night. Have a good day.” Castaldi answered, “Me too! Hope your day is going well.”
Castaldi wondered whether his message was dry and uninterested or simply typical of a millennial. As PerthNow reported her asking, “Is he still just 35, or am I not getting a second date?!” She wanted to see him again, and the post developed into a three-part series of updates to the message chain. PerthNow’s May 22, 2024 account said the video had received more than half a million views and 33.3k likes at that time; those are dated engagement figures, not current totals.
What could the text mean?
The wording is brief and polite, but it does not reveal the sender’s intention. It could be a low-key expression of interest, a neutral texting habit, or a sign of disinterest. Castaldi and commenters offered different readings; the account does not determine which is correct or say whether the pair went on another date.

That uncertainty is the story’s clearest point: a message can be read in more than one way when tone and context are limited. The anecdote does not show that millennials generally text one way, that Gen Z daters expect another, or that age explains this particular exchange.

No. It is one person’s account of a post-date text, not representative or longitudinal evidence about dating across generations. PerthNow’s report documents Castaldi’s uncertainty and the public discussion around it; it does not establish a broader trend or explain the man’s intent.

So the title’s question remains open. This episode illustrates how people can disagree about digital tone, but it cannot show whether cross-generational dating has become more difficult over time.
