Yes—but the revived Flappy Bird is a separate release from The Flappy Bird Foundation, not a return of the original game by its creator, Dong Nguyen. Nguyen said he was not involved, did not sell anything and did not support crypto. A 2024 report found Solana and Web3 references on the project’s website, but their status was unclear; when the Foundation’s Android game launched in 2025, its developer said it had no Web3 elements.
Is Flappy Bird back?
A new game called Flappy Bird was announced in September 2024 by The Flappy Bird Foundation, which said it had acquired rights from Gametech Holdings. That is the Foundation’s account of its rights; it does not mean original creator Dong Nguyen returned to make the game.
Nguyen publicly disavowed involvement and said he “did not sell anything.” The revived title is therefore best understood as a separate project using the Flappy Bird name, rather than a new installment made by the original creator. The Verge reported the announcement and Nguyen’s response.
Is Dong Nguyen involved in the new game?
No, according to Nguyen’s public statements. In September 2024, he said he had nothing to do with the revival and wrote, “I also don’t support crypto.” Those comments address his relationship to the new project and crypto; they should not be treated as an endorsement or review of its gameplay.

Some will engage immediately, while others may take time to warm up. Introduce the toy slowly and observe your cat’s reaction for the best experience.
The distinction matters because ownership claims about a name or other rights do not establish that Nguyen created, approved or participates in the revived game. TechCrunch covered Nguyen’s response.
Does the new Flappy Bird use crypto?
The answer depends on which point in the project’s timeline you mean. In 2024, TechCrunch reported that researcher Varun Biniwale found a hidden page on the Foundation’s website referring to Solana and Web3. The report said it was unclear whether those references described planned features or abandoned plans. Their presence was not proof that crypto features were active in a playable release.

For the later Android launch, GameSpot reported on April 30, 2025 that the developer said the game had “no Web3 elements.” That is a dated statement from the developer about the launch version, not an independent technical audit or a guarantee about every later version. GameSpot’s launch report gives that qualification.

Why did the original Flappy Bird disappear?
Nguyen removed the original app in February 2014. TechCrunch quoted him saying, “I cannot take this anymore.” GameSpot reproduced a fuller explanation: “I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it’s best to take down Flappy Bird. It’s gone forever.” Those remarks explain the original app’s removal; they are not comments on or approval of the later revival. TechCrunch reported the removal; GameSpot reproduced Nguyen’s fuller explanation.
