The Pokémon Pokédex classifies it as the “Evolution” Pokémon and gives it the Normal type. Any resemblance to a cat or fox is a matter of how its design looks to viewers—not an official animal classification or confirmed design origin.
How does the Pokédex classify Eevee?
The official U.S. Pokédex lists Eevee as Pokémon #0133, with the category “Evolution” and the type Normal. Its entry does not call Eevee a cat or a fox, and it does not identify a real-world animal as the inspiration for its design. See Eevee’s official Pokédex entry.
The entry describes Eevee’s fictional biology this way: “Its genetic code is irregular. It may mutate if it is exposed to radiation from element stones.” It also says Eevee’s unstable genetic makeup conceals possible evolutions. This is in-universe Pokémon lore, not a claim about a real animal.
Why might Eevee look like a cat or a fox?
Viewers may read different animal-like features in Eevee’s appearance, which can make either comparison feel plausible. But visual resemblance is not the same as official classification or evidence of what its designers intended. The Pokédex does not settle the comparison by naming a species or an animal inspiration.

What can be said about Eevee’s size?
The official Pokédex page displays Eevee’s height as 1 foot and its weight as 14.3 pounds. Those values appear without a publication year on the page, so they should be treated as displayed Pokédex figures, not as dated measurements of a real-world animal.
