Yes—Dragon Ball Super has two announced anime projects. That means the claim that the anime is “never coming back” is contradicted by official announcements. They are different projects: Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is an enhanced edition of the original TV anime, while Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol is a new-story project set after the Universe Survival Arc.

What is coming back—and what is not

The original Dragon Ball Super TV anime aired from 2015 to 2018, according to Toei Animation. The announcements do not describe a simple revival in which both projects continue the old broadcast in the same format. One revisits existing material; the other adapts the next story.

Project What it is Story placement Announced timing
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus An enhanced edition of the original Dragon Ball Super anime, according to the official Dragon Ball site. A reworking of existing anime material, not the separately announced new arc. Premieres in Japan on October 11, 2026. No worldwide release date or streaming service is established by the cited announcement.
Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol A separately announced new anime project, confirmed as in production by Toei. Follows the Universe Survival Arc and adapts the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc from the manga. Production is confirmed; the reviewed announcements do not give a release date.

What is Dragon Ball Super: Beerus?

The official Dragon Ball site calls Beerus a “newly ENHANCED edition” of Dragon Ball Super. Its description specifies new cuts, revisions to existing scenes, re-rendering of all footage, newly recorded dubbing, added score and sound effects, and a reconstructed story. It is therefore more than a label for an unchanged rerun, but the announcement does not describe it as a wholly new continuation.

Japan premiere and availability

The official Dragon Ball site announced on September 2, 2026 that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will premiere in Japan on Sunday, October 11, 2026. That date is for Japan; the announcement does not establish when or where it will be available elsewhere.

What is The Galactic Patrol?

Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol is the new-story continuation described by Toei. Its announcement says it follows the Universe Survival Arc, which aired from 2015 to 2018, and adapts the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc that appears in the manga. Toei names Goku, Vegeta, and Planet-Eater Moro in its description.

Shueisha identifies the Dragon Ball Super manga as serialized in V Jump; its official volume 1 listing is one starting point for readers interested in the source material. The anime announcement does not say that viewers need to read the manga to follow the project.

What the announcements do not tell us

  • They do not give The Galactic Patrol a premiere date or say whether it will run for one season or multiple seasons.
  • They do not identify a cause for the gap after the original anime’s 2015–2018 broadcast. The announcements do not support claims that ratings, rights issues, or the manga caused it.
  • They do not establish streaming availability by country for either project.

The announcements were made at Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri on January 25, 2026, with Toei’s production announcement for The Galactic Patrol dated January 26, 2026. The Japan premiere date for Beerus was announced September 2, 2026.
