Its fights and animation are the main draw; its 155-minute runtime, bloody violence, and unfinished trilogy story are the trade-offs. It is not a good starting point for newcomers.
What makes Infinity Castle worth watching?
The strongest case is the audiovisual spectacle. Rotten Tomatoes’ critics consensus calls it a “stirring beginning” to the franchise’s climax and praises its polished big-screen presentation. The site’s audience summary highlights the animation, epic fights, and emotional moments. GamesRadar likewise praises the animation and action. Those are positive critical and audience signals, not a guarantee that every viewer will respond the same way.
The battles are not only visual set pieces: character histories give them emotional weight. GamesRadar singles out Akaza’s characterization as a particular strength. If you enjoy action anime that ties fights to character conflict, that combination is the film’s clearest appeal.
Is it a good first Demon Slayer movie?
No. The story continues after the Hashira Training preparations, when Muzan draws Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps into the Infinity Castle for the final battle. It assumes viewers already understand the characters, their relationships, and the conflict. A Rotten Tomatoes audience review reports that first-time viewers can find the film confusing; newcomers who want the story and emotional stakes to land should watch the earlier series first. Rotten Tomatoes’ film page provides the listing and synopsis.
#1 Best Overall
- Tanjiro Kamado, joined with Inosuke Hashibira, a boy raised by boars who wears a boar's head, and Zenitsu Agatsuma, a scared boy who reveals his true power when he sleeps, board the Infinity Train on a new mission with the Fire Pillar, Kyojuro Rengoku, to defeat a demon who has been tormenting the people and killing the demon slayers who oppose it!
Does the movie tell a complete story?
No. Infinity Castle is the first of three films adapting the saga’s climax, so it begins the final conflict rather than resolving it. GamesRadar notes the sequel-related frustration and a progression between major battles that can feel episodic. If you want a self-contained film with a complete ending, the trilogy structure is a significant drawback.
How long is it, and how intense is the violence?
Rotten Tomatoes lists the runtime as 155 minutes (2 hours 35 minutes) and the rating as R for bloody violence throughout. That combination may be a poor fit if you prefer shorter films or are sensitive to graphic action. GamesRadar also observes that some familiar supporting characters have reduced roles and that the film has less levity than parts of the series.

How have critics and audiences responded?
Reviews are broadly enthusiastic about the presentation, animation, action, and emotion, while also recognizing that the movie is a beginning rather than a conclusion. For example, Rotten Tomatoes lists a review excerpt from Toussaint Egan of RogerEbert.com, dated September 28, 2025, describing it as a “flashy, frenetic, and thoroughly entertaining action anime” that works on visual and emotional levels. GamesRadar’s positive review also notes structural and character-balance frustrations. Treat these as individual critical judgments and reception signals—not proof that the film suits every viewer.
The film also drew substantial theatrical audiences. Aniplex reported 3,843,613 admissions and ¥5,524,298,500 in gross during its first three days in Japan after its July 18, 2025 opening; Aniplex published those figures on July 22. In North America, Associated Press reported Comscore estimates of a $70 million opening and a $132.1 million worldwide opening weekend on September 14, 2025, noting that final domestic figures were still due. These figures show commercial reach, not whether an individual viewer will enjoy the movie. Aniplex’s announcement and the Associated Press report give the respective figures and context.

Who is most likely to enjoy it?
| Viewer | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Established Demon Slayer fan who wants animation and action | Strong fit: the film’s biggest strengths are its large-scale fights and polished visual presentation. |
| Viewer invested in character backstories | Likely to appreciate the emotional material within the battles, including the characterization GamesRadar highlights. |
| Newcomer to the series | Weak fit as an entry point; the story relies on established characters and relationships. |
| Viewer seeking a complete ending | Weak fit: this is the first film in a trilogy, not the resolution of the saga. |
| Viewer sensitive to bloody violence, long runtimes, or episodic battle structure | Consider skipping or waiting: it is 155 minutes, rated R for bloody violence throughout, and its progression between battles may feel segmented. |

The official English series site announced a March 6, 2026 theatrical return in the United States and Canada, including SCREENX, with Japanese audio and English subtitles or an English dub; it names Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment as distributors. That announcement is specific to the North American return, not a statement of current worldwide availability. The official English series announcement has the rerelease details.
