Bad Bunny has a strong case as the greatest celebrity wrestler of all time: he delivered a featured WrestleMania performance, won a later singles match in Puerto Rico, and helped make WWE’s 2023 Backlash there a record-gate event, according to WWE. His wrestling résumé is short, but the combination of in-ring commitment, match stakes, crowd response and cultural setting makes it unusually substantial for a celebrity crossover.
Bad Bunny’s WWE run, match by match
His documented WWE milestones came in 2021 and 2023, rather than as part of a full-time wrestling schedule.
Royal Rumble 2021: a performance, not a match
Bad Bunny first crossed paths with WWE as a fan. At the 2021 Royal Rumble, he performed “Booker T”; WWE’s event announcement promoted it as the song’s first live performance. He also connected with Damian Priest, who would later become his tag-team partner and opponent. WWE’s Bad Bunny profile
WrestleMania 37: a tag-team win
Bad Bunny teamed with Priest against The Miz and John Morrison. WWE records a victory for Bunny and Priest, highlighting Bunny’s “Bunny Destroyer” on Morrison at ringside and a cross-body on Miz during the finish. This was a consequential role in a major match, not simply a celebrity appearance at ringside. WWE’s WrestleMania 37 result

Backlash 2023: a San Juan Street Fight
WWE announced Bad Bunny as host of Backlash, held May 6, 2023, at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan. He also wrestled Priest in a San Juan Street Fight and won. WWE describes it as the first singles victory of Bunny’s WWE career; the result came with help from LWO and others, so it was a singles-match win, not a finish without outside involvement. How good was Bad Bunny in the ring?
The evidence supports calling his appearances unusually credible for a celebrity crossover, but it does not establish a neutral performance score. WWE’s results document what he did and whether he won; those facts are not the same as an independent rating of technique or match quality.

His WrestleMania match gave him an active part in the action and a visible role in the finish. At Backlash, he returned for a singles bout against Priest in a setting with a clear personal and local connection. Together, those appearances make a stronger case than fame alone: the argument rests on participation, match stakes and follow-through across two distinct events.
Bad Bunny himself described the intensity of entering the ring in a TIME interview: “Best day of my life. I never felt that kind of adrenaline before. I wanted to explode before. It was like I was a kid all over again. And the fight—it was the blink of an eye. Everything happened fast.” TIME interview with Bad Bunny

Why Backlash in Puerto Rico matters
The setting gave the 2023 return significance beyond the result. WWE Corporate reported that Backlash 2023 set the largest gate for any WWE event held in Puerto Rico and the largest gate in Backlash history. Those are WWE’s reported gate records, not independently audited industry comparisons. WWE Corporate’s Backlash 2023 recap
That event impact strengthens the case for Bunny as a consequential crossover performer: his return was tied to an event in Puerto Rico, where he hosted and wrestled in front of a major local audience. The gate report does not, by itself, prove that his appearance caused the records; it does establish the scale WWE attributed to the event.

What “greatest celebrity wrestler” should mean
There is no objective all-time ranking established by the available record. “Greatest” is an editorial verdict, and a fair comparison should assess more than celebrity status or crowd size.
- Execution and preparation: Did the celebrity participate credibly in the match rather than serve only as a cameo?
- Role and result: How much did they contribute, and did the match give their involvement a meaningful outcome?
- Stakes and placement: Was the appearance part of a major card or a consequential storyline?
- Audience response: Did the crowd engage with the performance?
- Setting and cultural connection: Did the appearance mean something particular to the event’s location or audience?
- Impact beyond publicity: Did the crossover add a memorable match or event moment, not just attention?
Bad Bunny scores well on this framework because his run includes a WrestleMania tag victory, a later singles-match win, and a Puerto Rico event whose gate records WWE reported. That is a reasoned case for the title, not proof that every other celebrity wrestler has been surpassed; a comprehensive independent comparison is not established.
