No: ANANTA is not simply “anime GTA 6,” and calling it a confirmed gacha game goes beyond what its developer has said. The comparison has a basis in the urban open-world setting and familiar mechanics shown in its trailer, but the games differ in presentation and character focus. Whether those ingredients make ANANTA creatively derivative—or add up to a coherent game—cannot be settled from promotional footage alone.
What is ANANTA?
NetEase described ANANTA as a free-to-play urban open-world RPG in an anime-style world in its September 22, 2025 announcement. The publisher listed PC, PlayStation 5, and mobile platforms, and said players would control a variety of characters while exploring city neighborhoods and encountering both everyday life and hidden threats. Those are the publisher’s descriptions of the project, not independent confirmation that every announced feature will appear in the finished game.
The “anime GTA 6” label is a shorthand for a broad resemblance, not a precise description of the game’s identity. Naked Rain, ANANTA’s developer, told TechRadar on December 3, 2025, that it welcomed the comparison but saw the two titles as distinct. The team said both belong to the urban open-world genre, while differing in art style, character stories, and other aspects.
Why does ANANTA invite the GTA comparison?
The gameplay trailer gives viewers recognizable city-game ingredients: driving, character switching, traversal, combat, stealth-like activity, and other urban open-world conventions. Those overlaps make the comparison understandable. They do not establish that ANANTA reproduces GTA 6’s specific systems, story, or structure.

GamesRadar+’s September 23, 2025 analysis questioned whether the trailer’s many familiar-looking elements cohere. That is a fair critical question about what the footage presents, not a finding about the finished game. A trailer can show a collection of activities; it cannot, by itself, demonstrate how they connect over a full campaign or whether their execution feels distinctive.
What makes ANANTA different from GTA 6?
Art direction and setting
TechRadar characterized ANANTA’s visuals as stylized and cel-shaded, rather than pursuing the photorealistic look associated with GTA. Naked Rain also said it wanted to represent modern Asian urban life. The team put its ambition this way: “Since there are still very few games set in Asia, we wanted to create a game that captures the essence of modern Asian urban life and share it with the world.” That statement explains the developer’s intent; the trailer and interview do not prove how successfully the game will realize it.
Characters and stories
NetEase says players will control a variety of characters, and Naked Rain cited character stories as one point of difference from GTA 6. The available announcements do not establish the full narrative structure or how character switching will work in the final game, so it is too early to treat the feature as either a meaningful innovation or a borrowed formula.

Is ANANTA creatively bankrupt?
“Creatively bankrupt” is an opinion, not an objective description established by the available evidence. A critic can reasonably argue that the trailer leans on familiar open-world signals: cars, city traversal, combat, stealth-like sequences, and a cast of playable characters. The opposing possibility is that those conventions support a distinct setting, cast, and story. The trailer alone does not resolve that debate.
The useful distinction is between visible resemblance and demonstrated design. The footage supports saying ANANTA shares recognizable genre conventions with other urban open-world games. It does not establish that the final systems are derivative, nor does it show whether they combine into a coherent whole. Those judgments require the game itself, not just a promotional montage.

ANANTA is described by its publisher as free-to-play, but that does not automatically mean it uses character gacha. In TechRadar’s December 3, 2025 interview, Naked Rain said it did not plan to implement character-gacha mechanics and that monetization would primarily focus on character skins. When and where is ANANTA expected to launch?
NetEase’s September 22, 2025 announcement listed PC, PS5, and mobile. PC Gamer’s guide, published August 28, 2026, reported a January 15, 2027 launch for those platforms, attributing the date to an announcement at Gamescom 2026. The date is therefore best treated as a reported schedule, rather than as a release already verified by the publisher announcement cited here.
What do preregistrations tell us?
TechRadar reported more than 15 million preregistrations in its December 3, 2025 coverage. That is a dated audience-interest figure, not a current count and not evidence of the game’s quality, originality, or eventual success.
