As of October 8, 2026, neither Marvel Studios nor Disney has officially announced a fourth solo Iron Man film. Robert Downey Jr.’s announced return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is as a different character, Doctor Doom, in Avengers: Doomsday. Separately, Disney has said Downey will appear as Iron Man in two planned attractions in 2028. Neither of those is a sequel to the Iron Man films.
What official announcements do and do not say
Official Marvel and Disney announcements reviewed for this article do not include a title, release window, or production start for an Iron Man 4. That is a statement about announcements, not a guarantee that nothing is in development. Studios often keep projects quiet until casting or scheduling is settled, so the accurate position is that no fourth solo film has been confirmed.

The three existing solo films, Iron Man (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010) and Iron Man 3 (2013), remain the only films centered on Tony Stark’s armored hero.
Downey’s new role: Doctor Doom
On July 27, 2024, Disney announced at the San Diego Comic-Con panel that Downey would return to the MCU as Doctor Doom, the villain better known as Victor von Doom. Downey’s quoted line from that announcement was “New mask, same task,” followed by the remark that he likes playing complicated characters.

The casting is for Avengers: Doomsday, which Disney’s official film page lists for theatrical release on December 18, 2026. Anthony and Joe Russo are directing. The role is a new character for Downey in the franchise, not a return to Tony Stark, which is why it should not be read as an Iron Man film announcement.
The Avengers Campus attractions
Disney Parks’ 2026 D23 coverage describes an expansion of Avengers Campus under construction at Disney California Adventure, with two new attractions expected to open in 2028. The coverage names Downey as Iron Man in Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab.

These are theme park appearances. They do not create a new screen story, and the announcement does not say whether either attraction will include new Iron Man material beyond Downey’s appearance.

Why fan-made trailers are not studio news
Searches for “Iron Man 4” turn up fan-made trailers and concept videos with release dates attached. Some of these state they are unaffiliated with Marvel, and none is evidence of a Marvel production. Before treating a clip as news, check that it appears in an official Marvel Studios or Disney channel and that the claim is backed by a press release or studio statement.

Catalogs differ by country and change over time, so confirm that the 2008 film and its sequels are available in your region before you subscribe.
