Sue Storm’s costume history offers plenty to discuss, but the documented details available here support a close look at two specific comic-book designs—not a reliable ranking of ten. Marvel identifies Sue’s miniskirt version of the team suit and the Fantastic Four’s red costumes in Fantastic Four #1 (2014). Calling five designs the best and five the worst would require naming and checking eight more appearances; without that evidence, a ten-entry ranking would risk inventing details or passing off personal taste as fact.
What the available costume history establishes
Marvel describes Sue Storm as one of the original Fantastic Four characters. She was introduced as Invisible Girl and later became known as Invisible Woman. Those names mark a change in how the character is identified, but they do not by themselves establish a costume change or prove that one design is better than another. Marvel’s character history also notes that Sue starred in her own limited series, a useful route for readers who want to explore her beyond team appearances.
Two documented comic-book looks
| Appearance | What Marvel’s history establishes | Subjective visual take |
|---|---|---|
| Sue’s miniskirt team suit, worn through Fantastic Four #71 | Marvel says that while in the early months of pregnancy, Sue designed a miniskirt version of the team suit and wore it through issue #71. | The altered silhouette makes this a distinctive period look and gives Sue’s design history a specific point of authorship. Whether the miniskirt works for a reader is a matter of taste; Marvel’s account establishes its history, not a consensus about its appeal. |
| Red Fantastic Four costumes, Fantastic Four #1 (2014) | Marvel’s costume-history feature identifies this issue as a shift to red Fantastic Four costumes. | The color change provides a clear contrast with the familiar idea of a coordinated team suit. Its success depends on whether a reader likes that departure; the chronology alone does not make it a fan favorite or a misstep. |
Both details come from Marvel’s account of the Fantastic Four’s changing looks. The feature supplies a chronology for these examples, not a ranked catalogue of every Sue Storm costume.
A contemporary screen reference is not a verified costume verdict
Marvel’s official description of The Fantastic Four: First Steps identifies Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman and describes the film’s universe as 1960s-inspired. That makes the movie a relevant modern screen-era point of comparison, but the description does not provide enough costume detail to assess the outfit’s silhouette, colors, or overall execution. Nor does a period-inspired setting, on its own, prove that the costume succeeds or fails. Marvel’s film announcement establishes the cast and setting reference.

Why a five-best/five-worst list needs more than a title
A useful costume ranking needs ten identifiable appearances and a consistent basis for comparison. For Sue, that means naming the issue, run, or screen appearance for each look, then judging what can actually be seen: silhouette, color, how recognizably it belongs to the Fantastic Four, whether it suits its era, and how clearly it communicates Sue’s place on the team. Even with those standards, the final “love” and “hate” choices remain editorial opinion—not measured audience consensus.
The verified examples here do not establish eight additional designs or their specific appearances. A longer list made from unverified recollection would look more complete while being less dependable. Readers can use Marvel’s costume chronology and Sue’s character history as starting points, then judge particular issues or films against the same visual criteria.
