The episode’s large-scale crisis is the Invincible War: Angstrom Levy brings alternate versions of Mark to attack Earth. Heroes fight the variants while civilians and teammates try to survive. The battle’s ending leaves the immediate invasion behind, but not the danger. After the fighting and rescue efforts, Conquest appears and confronts Mark, setting up the season finale.
Who dies in the episode?
Rex Splode: confirmed dead
Rex helps his teammates escape, then stays behind as an alternate Mark holds him. He detonates his own skeleton, killing himself and the attacker. It is a deliberate last stand that gives the others a chance to get away. The A.V. Club’s recap describes Rex’s act as a final heroic sacrifice.

#1 Best Overall
Darkwing: missing and presumed dead
Darkwing draws an alternate Mark into the Shadow-Verse and traps the two of them there. The act is presented as a sacrifice, but the episode does not show a conventional, body-confirming death. The episode guide describes Darkwing as missing and presumed dead, so his fate is not as definitive as Rex’s. SuperHeroHype’s episode guide gives that status.
The alternate Marks: ten killed, eight stranded
TechRadar counts 18 attacking alternate Invincibles: 10 are killed by Mark and the other heroes, while the remaining eight turn on Angstrom after he orders them to bring Mark to him. Angstrom uses drones and portals to strand those eight on the desolate Earth associated with his earlier fight with Mark. The count is TechRadar’s account of the episode, not a separate population statistic. TechRadar’s episode explainer details the battle and its aftermath.
Debbie survives
Debbie is safe during the attack because she is away from the Grayson home, according to the episode guide.
Does Angstrom Levy die?
No. Angstrom survives, but the portal closes on both his hands after Mark grabs his hand as it shuts. He turns to the Technicians for help. Rather than simply repair him, they make him bargain for their services, leaving him alive and injured with a new obligation. The A.V. Club recap and SuperHeroHype’s episode guide describe the injury and the Technicians’ leverage.
Rank #2
Who is Conquest, and who voices him?
Conquest is a high-ranking warrior of the Viltrum Empire, and his arrival at the episode’s end puts a powerful new enemy directly in Mark’s path. Jeffrey Dean Morgan voices him in the animated series; both TechRadar and the A.V. Club identify Morgan as the voice actor. The comics portray Conquest as exceptionally powerful, but the episode’s immediate reveal is simpler: a formidable Viltrumite has come to confront Mark.
Who is Ka-Hor?
Ka-Hor is an Egyptian mummy created for the animated adaptation, bound to his tomb by a curse. He can escape only by binding his soul to a living male host. Damage to the tomb gives him an opening to try to possess an alternate Mark, but he cannot overpower the host. The fighters move away, leaving Ka-Hor trapped again, while the two women who had been confined in the tomb escape. TechRadar’s explainer covers the subplot alongside the Invincible War.
Why the episode’s ending matters
The episode separates several very different outcomes. Rex’s death is explicit; Darkwing’s self-sacrifice leaves his status unresolved; Angstrom survives with a severe injury; and Conquest’s arrival is a cliffhanger, not a death scene. Together, those beats close the immediate invasion while making clear that Mark’s next confrontation is still ahead.
